Has anyone dynoed a closed chamber head versus an open chamber head?
I have an older friend that keeps telling me it's a 50hp gain. Since i run a 402 in my bracket bomb and wouldn't mind throwing some more power in it I'm hoping someone on here may have some results |

SS big block commonly run over .800 lift and utilize every trick in and out of the book to achieve the performance numbers mentioned. I was a bracket racer for more than 30 years and I can tell you that in most cases open chamber is easier to make hp with. The 049 and 781 open chamber oval port heads can run really strong with an upgrade to 2.19" and 1.88" valves and short side radius work. The late great John Lingenfelter proved this many times.

I was talking oval ports, now 291s are a different world. Bridges would be good, but there are others as well. Some like to forget..............

Feel free to call me. You will have to turn RPM to utilize the 291 head. Whats your drive line like? It might be best to build a 4.350 X 3.766 short block.
