Finally made my first divisional in years with Oldsmobile. Totally missed carb jetting and trying to shift at high rpm's.
Couldn't run index the first 2 passes. Received some great advice from Greg Marshall,Darren Summerton and some carb tuning from Mark Yacavone. Ran .08 under index Saturday but fought oil leaks. First leak was oil filler plug fell out and blew oil all over compartment, but not on track. Fixed that and after checking valve lash I pinched a valve cover gasket and it leaked on next pass. Found that problem and fixed it, or so I thought. First round it leaked again. Luckily everything went on headers and made a ton of smoke and did not get any oil on track. Ordered new breathers, gaskets, carb jets. Clean up mess and start over. I will keep trying to get this thing to run. I had allot of racers tell me it's a great combo to run. |

Jeff, never quit! you're doing good. those are minor things at least you made it to the track safe. I know what you're going through I finally got my Super Stocker running after switching from SBC carb to an LS FI. stick to an auto. keep up the good work and good luck. Luke

Keep plugging away Jeff. I remember sitting in the water box behind you at speedworld on many occasions waiting to get an awesome view of your hood on that bumper dragging Monte Carlo! I've got faith in you!

I've had a lot of trouble with oil leaks from valve cover gaskets. I finally got cast aluminum valve covers and I use rubber gaskets with the steel insert, and I tighten them down a lot. That solved it for me.
It was great to see you out there. I love station wagons and yours looks awesome! |
