Just learned about a couple of 1966 model Pontiac Stockers, that ran the OHC straight six engine. Cars were provided by Pontiac, & raced by the Bill Knafel race team.
One car was a hardtop, & one was a 'vert. They are said to have set new records in I/S & J/S. Anybody here see, or even remember these cars ? Anybody here know of any other Pontiac OHC powered Stock or SS cars ? Last edited by oldskool; 10-24-2019 at 01:59 PM. |

The only other OHC Pontiac powered drag cars I know of are a '67 Bird G-Stocker, and an H/Gas Anglia, called Hole Shot 6". The Anglia was a record holder. I think the pic below was taken at the '71 US Nats.

Never saw one in a car but one of those engines was on a stand in the back of my High School shop class. Late 70's

I remember racing a Tempest Sprint at the old Pacific (MO) Raceway - and it even seems like they were still using the spot marks at the line and a flagman.
In that early stage, about the only trick stuff I knew was to remove the air cleaner. The thing cleaned my clock to an embarrassing extent. It was the first one I'd seen run at a track and I was pretty impressed with how well it ran. |
