It was a car that as a kid I ran to the starting line to watch.
Interesting side note, this car is being reassembled by a group of his old friends. It is being put back to its MP configuration and appears to be pretty close to its appearance back at that time. This was no small undertaking as the body looked like Humpty Dumpty after the crash, a million very small pieces of fiberglass had to be grafted back together.

Am not certain if this car qualifies an "old modified Corvette" but the Engels Corvette now has the NHRA permanent number assigned to Angelo DeCarlo.

Jim, is there any updates on the Corvette of Terry. It would be very cool to see that car completed and on display.

I would say your saddle tan is a 63 as it has all the right things.
The red one also looks right.
So what is your point.
All I did was point out the pictures shown as a 63 is missing many items which should make it a 63. Split window and fender slots which is telling is all I pointed out.
Yes I am no expert as you so dramatically pointed out however, I have owned a number of original mid year corvette's. The split window is the first thing that makes the 63 a 63 and the one we are discussing is missing that.
I owned and raced a 63 split window for many years with an original body down to the LOF glass in the windows except the windshield. I had restorers try to buy the LOF glass in the split windows at the race track several times.
You can call a car anything you like however, that does not make that claim any more correct one way or the other.
By the way looks like dedracer edited his post as I was responding as it no longer calls the car a 63.
Not my car so call it anything you like and I will do the same.
If I can get a picture to load I will list my 63 split window below I raced for years and wished I still owned.

Lynn Engles, I think you mistook the car we were discussing.
After making my post I went back and the red and gold corvette listed as currently owned by LJ Engles is NOT the one we were discussing.
Those pictures were also posted by dedracer.
It is the white one we were discussing in Post # 436 that I quoted in my response.

Dedracer has now edited out the 63 out of his post # 436.
I think he realized he created a controversy by showing it as a 63.
Let me know what you think.
I post on here to make friends not enemies and your post made me think you thought of me as the latter.

mr cates i know which car i was talking about , your first sentence was in this case looks are not decieving ,well sir they are if you look it still has the stock front window trim, 63 only, but what you cant see is the title and trim and vin tag that prove it started out as a 63, your second sentence, can you tell by my screen name i should know a 63 when i see it, well if that was the case you said my superstocker was a 63 as it has all the right things, well wrong as it doesnt have the front window trim and it is a 64 . you also said my stocker looks right , well once again its run as a 67 but its a 65, one of your other sentences , so what is your point, my point is not everything is as it looks corvettes have been one the most popular race cars since the beginning so if you wanted to chg classes you just chged the vents or louveres to make it what ever want so if you cut out the back window of a 63 and put in 67 louveres and call it a 67 and its still titled a 63 as it started i would say its still a 63, one more example is the car posted by chopperloco has 67 vents but its not a 67,but then again my brother had a 61 that was titled as 58 that was bought right from a chevy dealer so what year would that be, i could go on and on but im starting to sound like the experts which i definatley am not and dont want to be. but i do love old corvette race cars whatever year you want to call them.
