2004

Well, it was the middle of June before I found a final round Pontiac appearance. Peter was RU at the Pontiac Excitement Nats.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop

Unless Pontiacs won a lot of smaller races, it was a bad year for Pontiac Super Stockers.

So, I'll add 2005 results to this post.

Decided to look at a qualifying list. At Phoenix, Ken Shawver was #6 @ - 1.080. And, there were several Pontiacs running below their index. So, the Pontiacs were running OK. But the drivers were not putting together enuff good packages to win a lot of rounds.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

OK, at the Mile-High Nats, Carroll Warling was #14 @ - 1.113.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

He made it to the semi, then cut a slow light. But hey, we've all done it. For whatever reason, you just can't cut a great light every single pass.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

At the Sports Nats, Ken Shawver was #10 @ - 1.072. I've said it before. But this has to be one of the best running Pontiac powered SS cars of all time. It consistently qualified well, for a lot of years. Peter Biondo is on the Q-list. Russ Abrams is also listed, with a '91 GT/FA Bird. I think he ran a '73 SD455 Bird. So, does anybody know if this GT Bird was Pontiac powered ?

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

Peter won this race, with a .008 light !

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

That's it for 2005. Without the div race results, and results from open races, Stock/SS combo races, and all other races which involved Pontiac SS cars, the race info is very limited. So, again I ask, is there some online source for these race results that I don't know about.

The reason I keep asking these questions is because I assume that some of you guys may know of race info sources that I am not aware of.

2006

At Phoenix, Keri Angeles ran a 9.76, & Don Kennedy ran a 9.85. Joel Larkin was also on the list.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Peter won the Gators !

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

At the Spring Nats, J.B. Clegg ran a 10.40 & won his SS/JA class.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

At Vegas, Keri was #19 @ - 1.047. Don Kennedy was .977 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

At this Carquest Nats race, Ken Shawver was #2 @ - 1.098.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

This reminds me of something I've seen in recent years. Nowadays there are LOTS of quick Stockers that can run quick enuff to run under their SS index. And I've seen some Pontiac Stockers do just that. As long as they don't have to make a heads-up run, they can win the SS race, while running in legal Stock form.

This is the earliest race I've run across, where a Pontiac Stocker ran SS. Have run across several races from the early 2000's where some events would run either Stock or SS, but not both. So, for those who had Stockers that would run under their SS index, if their was a nearby race they wanted to run, that was running SS, but not Stock, they could simply enter their Stocker, in the SS class. That's exactly what happened at this Sonoma race. Leo Glasbrenner entered his Stock '68 Bird, in SS/JA class. Was #49 @ -.264.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

He actually made it to the 4th round. Was beat by the eventual winner.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

At the Northern Sports Nats, Ken Shawver was #4 @ - 1.095.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

I thought this Q-list was very interesting. They must have had very good air. LOTS of cars were more than a sec under. Sal Piacentini was #23 @ - 1.057. Another interesting entry was Al Vanis, in a '77 Bird. Al had won the US Nats in Stock, in a Pontiac powered Ventura, back in 1974. Also won a nat event at Englishtown in '03, in a '77 Lemans.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Also had some good air at Vegas, Carroll Warling was #9 @ - 1.310. Don Kennedy was #43 @ - 1.160.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

He made it to the semi, where he got treed, with a .007.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

At Norwalk, Monte Howard drove Ken Shawver's '78 T/A to #24 @ - 1.029.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

Lot's of quick cars at the Mile-High Nats again. Carroll Warling was #7 @ - 1.303.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

At the Northern Sports Nats, Monte Howard was #40 @ - 1.068.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

He Made it to the semi, and cut a great .004 light, but went too quick.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

At the Torco Nats, Sal Piacentini was #13 @ - 1.053. And looks like Peter was back in the Hatari Bird with a #14 @ - 1.050.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

At the Fall Vegas race, Carroll Warling was #10 @ - 1.267. Don Kennedy was #42 @ - 1.130.

2008

At Pomona, Don Kennedy was #18 @ - 1.051.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At the Spring Vegas race, Don K. was #16 @ - 1.105. Keri Angeles, Joel Larkin, & Art Peterson were also on the list.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At the Spring Nats, Johnny Duncan was #53 @ -.860. Since somebody said he always ran a Pontiac engine, I assume this '95 Bird had one.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At the Route 66 Nats, Jeremy Duncan was #19 @ -.919, in a 4th gen Bird. So, since he is from the same home town, can I assume that Jeremy is Johnny's son, & therefore the car was Pontiac powered ?

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At Englishtown, Sal Piacentini was #21 @ - 1.055.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At Norwalk, Monte Howard was #17 @ -.934.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

Wow ! At the Mile-High Nats, Carroll Warling was #2 @ - 1.437.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At the Toyo Nats, Sal P. was #26 @ - 1.018.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At the Carolina Nats, Sal P. was #16 @ - 1.012.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At the Fall Vegas race, Carroll was #6 @ - 1.362. Keri was #54 @ -1.068. Don K. was #68 @ -.996.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At the Pomona Finals, Keri was #30 @ -.976. Stacy McCarty was #36 @ -.926.

I tried to find a pic of Sal's car to post. The only one I found was on a site that won't let you download their pics. But, it appeared to be a '77 Gold Formula. I ASSUME it is the same car that Mike Morgan has now, which has 350 Pontiac power.

Yeah, I remember the 1st one of those 4-cyl engines I saw. Some refer to 'em as half of a 389. A friend had bought one, that had been raced in a dragster, at our local track. IIRC, it had an SD455 head, pistons with HUGE domes, a roller cam, and Carrillo rods. Stored it in my shop for years. My friend never used it. But, it was a good conversation piece.

I think I read that Nunzi has a '63 Tempest, with one of those in it, which has run 11.70. Engine supposedly has all factory parts. Here's a short article about Nunzi. I have no idea if any of the stuff mentioned is true, or not. Maybe others here know.
