2012
At Pomona, Ryan Schole was #26 @ -.718. Peter was #38 @ -.621. Art was #48 @ -.514. Joel was #52. Keri was #55. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Peter broke, in round 6, & had to settle for a 3rd place finish. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the AZ Nats, Peter was #17 @ -.764. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Peter got treed in the semi & had to settle for another 3rd place finish. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop OK, since we'll now have results from the Lucas Oil Series div races, I'll try to list them with there div number, followed by a dash, followed by the season sequence number. So, this race will be called the LOS 7-1 race, since it is in div 7 & is the 1st LOS race of the season. In case of rainouts, sometimes the sequence numbers may not be in the correct order. This shorter race ID will require less time & space. So @ LOS 7-1, Don K. was #3 @ -.925. Ryan was #28 @ -.605. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 7-2, Don K. was #2 @ -.949. Ryan was #32 @ -.608. Robert was #43, & Art was #45. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 4-1, J.B. was #22 @ -.682. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the Cajun Sports Nats, J.B. was #61 @ -.636. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 7-3, Robert was #2 @ - 1.001. Don K. was #6 @ -.905. Leo Glasbrenner was #14 @ -.826. Don't know if Leo had Pontiac power at that time, or not. Who knows ? Ryan was #34 @ -.600. Art was #61. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Don K. won that race ! ![]() https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the Spring Vegas race, Don K. was #3 @ -.947. Ryan was #29 @ -.697. Art was #54. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the 4-wide Nats, Peter was #63. It seems that for some races, Peter uses the strategy of his rival, Dan Fletcher, by purposely qualifying low. I know this is a Pontiac thread, But since I've been lookin up race results, Dan Fletcher is the name that has popped up, most often, in the later rounds of races. I assume he has an awesome list of racing accomplishments. I'm sure that everybody who has kept up with Stock/SS racing knows about Dan. But, I'm just getting a look at some of what he did. So, at some point, I'll probably do some research & get all the info on his racing career. But, that's for another time, & perhaps another thread. This thread is for Pontiac powered SS cars. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Gonna start skipping a lot of races, unless there is a Pontiac that qualifies well, or one that makes it to at least the semi. @ LOS 3-1, Bill Rink was #6 @ -.980. Stacy was #12 @ -.955. Monte was #42 @ -.800. Greg was #44 @ -.793. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 5-1, Robert was #5 @ -.782. Bill was #12 @ -.668. Carroll was #14 @ -.651. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Robert was beaten by his son, in the semi. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 3-2, Greg was #39 @ -.724. Johnny Duncan was #66. But the reason I'm including this Q-list is because of the next 2 cars. The 1st is a 1970 GTO, driven by Bill Eadelis. How long has it been since ya'll saw a '70 GTO SS car, before this one ? The other car is what I think is an SD455 powered '73 auto trans SS Bird, driven by Russ Abrams. I know that Bob Michael & Don K. ran one. Who has run one, in this century ? Maybe there is one, or some, that I don't know about. Those SD455 parts are so rare & expensive now, it's not likely that anybody else will try to build a SD455 powered SS car, in the future. Don't know if any of the GT guys will run one in the future, or not. I suppose that for many guys with enuff money to do this, a rare expensive set of head cores is not a problem. So, maybe we WILL continue to see a few SD455 headed engines on the track. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 1-2, Vic Santos was#12 @ -.851. Don K. was #14 @ -.822. Sal P. was #61. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Well, that gets us thru May of 2012. Again, if any of ya'll know of Pontiac wins at other races during the season, please post that info. Last edited by oldskool; 01-17-2020 at 08:02 PM. |

Other Pontiacs on the list were Ryan Schloe #54, J.B. #60, Keri #66, & Art #76. Leo Glasbrenner was on the list. But, his car was listed as having a 350 engine. Since he's raced Pontiac powered cars, I'd assumed that his 4th gen Bird GT car had Pontiac power. But, now I'm more inclined to believe that the 350 mentioned was probably a Chevy 350, that was in the car when he bought it. But, that is mere speculation on my part. If anybody here knows for sure what brand of 350 was in his GT car, at this race, please post that info. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 7-6, Don K. was #5 @ -.974. He either had lots of frequent flyer miles, or flew on private jets. Don't think a guy could make that many races, traveling by land. He'd stay wore out all the time. And he ran Stock & SS. So, I assume that others got the cars to the tracks, & he just flew in, to do the driving. If he traveled by land to all those races, he's almost super-human, IMO. And, I just noticed a pic of the car from 2002. It has Santos & Ribeiro on the side, & Dean Ribeiro on the window. I suppose that means that Dean drove the car for a while. I've seen his name on several of the DRC lists. I knew Dave raced Pontiacs. Just never made the connection between Dean & Vic. So, after I get caught up thru 2019, I'll go back & see if I can find some results for the car, when Dean was driving. Last edited by oldskool; 01-18-2020 at 08:47 PM. |

So, from the results I've seen, here is a list, in no particular order, of the drivers of the quickest V8 Pontiac powered Super Stock cars of 2014. Some run low 9's. Some run 10's. The slower cars have run well against their index.
(1) Don Kennedy (2) Robert Cruzen (3) Leo Glasbrenner (4) Peter Biondo (5) Vic Santos (6) Greg Meyer (7) Carroll Warling [8) Bill Rink (9) Keri Angeles Pari. (10) J.B. Clegg I suppose, as of today, the last 2 names are the only ones on this list associated with 9 sec non-GT Pontiacs. Keri has run the '69 RAIV Bird well into the 9's. And, as we'll see from results from later years, J.B. has driven both a '73 & '74 SD455 Bird well into the 9's. Because there are several Pontiac Stockers that have run real low 10's, it shouldn't be big problem, at all, to get those cars into the 9's, if taking advantage of the SS rules. I suppose there just hasn't been anybody intersted in doing that, yet. I'd love to see some D-port head, non-GT Pontiacs into the 9's. There are several Pontiac guys around nowadays, who could pull it off. All that's needed is somebody with the money, who wants to do it. Just guessing that several Pontiac guys would be happy to help with such a project. So, somebody do it, already ! If I win one of the BIG lotteries, I'll put up the money for the build, myself. ![]() I realize that all these numbers mean very little, to nothing, to most non-Pontiac folks, since there are other brands that will run quicker, in almost any class a Pontiac can run in. But, because Pontiacs make up such a very small percentage of SS cars, to me, that makes it real special when I see a Pontiac that gets a class win over other brands, or sets a nat record in classes dominated by Chevy, or other brands. I suppose it's part minority brand pride, and part just because I've always loved Pontiacs. ![]() Last edited by oldskool; 01-19-2020 at 04:12 AM. |
