This is correct. When a competitor wins a round, they are required to go through fuel check and scale even if not making the full pass. Same goes for racers on a single who take the tree and back out--still required to go through fuel and scales.
For the record, though, the Race Director has the ability to override this need in extreme situations. |

This is a grey area to me, and results/opinions will likely vary. Per the 2020 NHRA Rulebook, both Stock (11A) and Super Stock (12A) prohibit the use of Tow Vehicles. Therefore the easy answer would be 'no'.
Example where it gets really grey: potential heads up final. Say an A/SA car wins semis to go into final and another A/SA car has the bye. What's stopping the second A/SA car from taking the tree, claiming broke, then getting towed and saving engine/tranny heat from taking a beating before a quick turnaround final round? Can't tell the racer they have to drive to tech if they claim no oil pressure, so it has to be towed. Do you then DQ the racer for towing? Can't DQ everybody who breaks on the line, that isn't fair play. Now what if that buddy who's towing the broke car throws ice bags on the intake before towing, is that fair? Ice yes towing no, where's the line, insert rabbit hole... All in all, it's about situational awareness. I personally feel myself having been a racer for a number of years helps me see through potential gamesmanship like this. Now, again, innocent until proven guilty. My opinion, when available, is that broke cars must be pushed/towed by official means (whether it track official or sanctioning body) to be as fair as possible in the situation. This is an interesting post.
Let's say it is Round 3 and I have a "potential" heads up in Round 4.My car is too slow to win a heads up. I am in the first pair out and I win the round.I pull over at the end of the track and wait until I see who wins my "potential" heads up. They do win,so now I have a heads up in Round 4,which I can't win. Can I bypass the scales and let my opponent back in that I beat? I know I lose the round money (which is hardly anything) and the points(which I don't care either) But my opponent in Round 4 suddenly doesn't have such an easy Round 4 matchup. |
