My 307 olds in a Cutlass has made passes .65 or faster and because they have received an HP increase in the last 2 years that the motor can not receive a reduction. I'm in a station wagon so I'm not in the Cutlass platform. Can or should I be able to get a reduction or not? I thought same motor same body style.

The screenings will look for an overall engine family average, or class/engine average less than 0.549-seconds under. If both averages are found to be slower than 0.549-second under, a change will be initiated. Runs of 0.100-second under and slower are not included in calculating the engine average:
In addition, the engine family must NOT make two runs of 0.650 or quicker or any run 0.850 or quicker during the past two (2) review periods, for the review to continue. Once an engine family receives a horsepower increase it is not eligible for a decrease Copied and pasted from NHRA site. In the first paragraph first sentence sameengine or CLASS. I'm the only 307 in U. But second paragraph says nothing about body or class. I'm confused. |

If all of the standards are satisfied, the AHFS works for the addition or subtraction of HP. It has helped many racers move up or down a class.
Jeff body style is the company platform, you know LT1 ‘98 Firebirds and Camaros. Last edited by Larry Hill; 12-11-2020 at 09:00 AM. |

Hey Larry, I'm sure that this is just a Freudian slip because as you know, people who live with 'glass hoods shouldn't throw stones. ;-)

Not trying be be difficult, but Im the only 307 in U/SA. Thinking it is the only engine /body in U.
Im thinking that it doesnt matter as the engine itself has been faster then .65 in a Cutlass. I understood that it was engine and platform and must not be correct. Are all the same style engines have the same HP rating in the different body styles? |

Disregard. I figured it out. Weight breaks are different per platform. HP is the same across the board.

My good friend Daran Summerton ran one of these wagons a decade or so ago. As I remember it was a top qualifier AND he didn’t spend a FORTUNE on it.....
