Well, looks are deceiving! Back then body modifications were as common as switching engines, whatever it took to take advantage of the rules.

Can you tell by my screen name I should know a 63 when I see it. First off no split window in the rear glass. 63 was the only year with a split window. Second the fender well has multi vent slots some call it a 5 slot. The 66 model fenders had a 3 slot. Other mid years have insets not slots. I have owned all of the mid year models over the years and currently have a 67 427 roadster. My favorite. I am no expert however, it is a1967 body shown no doubts. lynn engels is offline Lynn, my first comment is above and it states "That body sure looks like a 67 to me." I was talking about the body not the trim or the vin tag just the body style. I raced the original body 63 for many years before retirement in S/G and SST. I was just not that competitive and moved up to a full round tube and more HP than it was able to support. I own a 67 original street car and I currently race a Don Davis C5 roadster in Super Gas. The C5 was built in 2007 and I use that year on my tech cards as its year. I left stock class racing in the 60's to get married and raise a family however, I still watch Stock and Super Stock when at the races as time permits. We have been friends with the Cotton's for years. We were parked next to them many years ago and have been friends since. Mike and Paula are just great people and I am proud to call them friends. I do not care what brand someone races it is all about the races and the friends you make at the races. We have made race friends all over the country and into Canada since retirement. I remember when the red corvette, you mentioned in the photo from page 6 was awarded the Best Engineered award in Las Vegas. I was there racing and looked at it and it was nice. I am on the forum to learn things about the racing and the racing community and possibly make a few new friends. And like I stated earlier not to make enemies. I just took your first comments about me not being an expert as having made enemy. I hope that is not the case. I am old and have lots of experience in lots of different things however, I am not an expert in anything. That is all I was trying to state. Rick Cates Canyon, TX |

There were several beautiful Corvettes that raced out of Montgomery, AL back in the 70's and 80's. One was a candy apple red '62 owned and driven by Bill Bethea. Another was a black '63 (IIRC), owned and driven by Al Capatel. These were IHRA cars, so they prob weren't seen much outside of the Southeast. Surely someone has some pics of those.
I'm told that Bill still owns his car, not sure about Al. Bill's business partner, Kenneth Dickey also had a 'Vette. I believe his was also a '62, which ran in S/S. Another was the McCann, Cowles and Kamakowski car, driven by Stanley Kamakowski, which was white and was a '67 or '66. (IIRC) These cars were all Modifieds except for Kenneth's and all were immaculate and always well-prepared. Anyone remember those cars? Last edited by Terry Drinkwater; 01-07-2021 at 08:29 AM.
