I have a set of old S/S ported but not welded 041 heads and was wondering about compression

An 041 head is a 350 head. Are you asking about putting an 041 head on a 307? If you are, then it would wind up being pretty much the same as a 73/307.

You might end up with about 8.5-1. If I might make a suggestion? Put a 305 head on it. Even a small valve 305 head would make for a nicer driver than the 041 head.

Already have the 041 head and might build something a little bigger later the 307 has a lot of miles on it

305 heads work good on a 307. There actually a good combination on a 350 for a low rpm hi torque motor.

I've done that too! 4V 305 head on a dished piston 350 with a blue Felpro gasket comes out to about 9.4-1. 224/224 Summit cam and an old Torker or TM-1 intake makes for a sweet street combo.
