Are they split point drills? If so that is probably why. You have to have your tool and part clamped and supported solid to keep it from happening. Standard point drills will drill a more round hole if using a hand drill or light duty drill press. |

That is what happens when they are not sharpened right. One side of the drill point is longer than the other, causing the center to be off center, allowing the drill bit to wobble, causing a three corner hole. Resharpen the end, taking more off the short side to make the point even, and they will cut better. When a drill bit is sharpened right, you will have a chip comming off both sides of the drill. If your chip is only comming off one side of the drill, your point is off center.

I retired from a huge breakfast cereal manufacturer. The entire place was stainless steel so we brutalized drill bits. These were my favorites... They really do wear well, but their not cheap
