There has to be a time in the past that someone got the terms shipping weights and curb weights confused.

As Dwight and I explained earlier, the shipping weight was sort of a "Flat Rate" measurement for shipping purposes, that did not take into account the options of the car, just enough gas to move the car around, no passengers, and without cargo.

The OEM's did away with shipping weights many years ago and kept the curb weights, which accounts for a car with all fluids, full tank, and standard equipment for the specific model.

It is similar to the current curb weight narrative Ford uses for their products and what they weight they recommend for shipping considerations.
