I have seen this happen too many times over the years with production 305 blocks. He or anyone can hone it again but chances are very high that it won’t seal. Bow tie blocks /dart little M blocks are the only remedy to this situation.Unfortunately no one will sell their performance blocks. Another option would be to sleeve a 307 or 350 block. That would be a viable option. To continue to spend money on a production block is not very wise. All in all, I do wish you luck with your racing endeavor …

The TS rings are too hard for production blocks typically, and no the hone won't fix it properly regardless of what TS says. More RVK in the hone surface will help, but then you're creating unnecessary friction.
Mahle's HV385 top ring is the best choice for any block, production or aftermarket, if your bore size, width, and radial are available. Good Luck |

Check the oil ring tension. If it is too light it will pump oil like crazy. Do you have oil in the intake manifold?

I would get in touch with one of these guys, they may be able to recommend a couple of shops as well as tell you how you should hone the cylinders.

I use leak down and compression check along with obviously is it smoking? Light weight ring pacs can have a inaccurate reading on leak down..I ultimately make my final decision using compression test. If it has say 200# on all cylinders, I'm not to concerned with leak down numbers..JMO Brian Seaberg 627
