I bought a set of tool steel lifters recently for under $300 and had them treated for $250. I use a nitrided cam. This is a SBC and 210 on the seat. Works for me. The place I got these from is RPM Machine in North Carolina and made in USA. I think he may make them for other brands. He says he has some in stock. I found his ad on Facebook and just called and ordered them. For me, the process works and isn’t too crazy $$$.

So- i am calling a time out on this thread before someone or a lot gets burned here. I have no connection to the referenced lifter maker or any other lifter or cam mfg. But the lifter photo i posted was sent to me ,(my co) by one of the most well known and fast engine builders in the country to see if i could fix the surface,with one of our coatings. (I could not). You can literally drag a fingernail across the surface and feel the roughness of the surface.So itried etching and then polishing one to see if i could get anything near acceptable for applying .No .Then took some pics with our microscope to get more info. They are over at another lab as we talk getting hardness tested. I have no dog in the hunt here,just trying to help my friends, you guys!!! So u might want to be prudent and wait for more info before u go ordering stuff.
Maybe its just a bad batch or ?? But this builder or others i spoke with are not putting those on any engine. I did not expect this subject to come upwhen i posted this but, maybe its good that it did. You can see a little bit about my experience and what i do at forcealtered.com But this is in no way a promotion for me our what i do. I am just in the startup/re-startup phase and Ken M. is aware of me and what i do.

Frank I'm sure we must have met threw the years but do you even have a Stocker? Paul you and Charlie are trying to get a motor built. What are you going to use for lifters? Or are you going to put a small cam with not a lot of valve spring pressure. There are others on here with a solution to go backwards for the older cars. Some of you don't race Stock and probably never will. Others race in classes that they don't have anyone that competes in their class and won't see a heads up race all year. I'd call that bracket racing and you don't need to worry how fast your car goes. I like the part of competing against other cars that run the same class as I do. And I don't want to have to bring a knife to a gun fight because a part is no longer available. James so you have an experiment going on. I hope they work all season. But if not let us know how big of a hole in the oil pan they put and what it will cost to fix. I don't need any lifters at this point. But with everything we are allowed to do right now. And with half the cars in Stock using roller lifters already. You think letting all Stockers use them is going to make us closer to Super Stock. Really!! That horse left the barn years ago too. I have a cast cam, removed the billet core so we could try a different grind, everything looks good but I'm sure it's all on borrowed time. I would like to get a billet copy of our current can but that is obviously an issue. Here was my fix...I ordered a roller cam, aluminum heads and manifold, plus a 4150 carb and a nitrous kit. I'll mothball the stocker stuff and maybe someday when lifters aren't $2k we'll return...maybe not.

I always get a laugh when I see this argument. It always makes me think of what has taken place in the past. Remember Super Mod and the Econo classes? They were going to be a cheap and simple way for guys to have fun without spending a fortune. And now, they're ridiculously expensive and there's nobody in them. Super Stock? I remember when a decently competitive SS car involved a $30,000 total investment. Nowadays, that won't buy you an engine. I think the real problem is that many racers see three options, when there are only two. Option 1 is quit: Option 2 is spend enough to keep up with the guys who don't CARE how much it costs, and Option 3 is to keep bitching, but refuse to spend with the big dogs.

I know I'll be classed as a lunatic but I see is the cause of all this fuss and expense is the obsession in stock and super/stock with UNDER. The index for for super gas is 9.90 the index for G/SA is 12.00 that's how it should stay. It's of no value to go 9.20 in super gas it could be of no value to go 11.20 in G/SA. In a heads up run you could still let it fly and you could still have class eliminations but do away with the qualifying ego trip, it could reduce expenses and create a new element in the game. Otherwise the never ending rule change and technology roller coaster is endless and for many they just can't keep up with it.
