I was going to just say thanks for all that have texted, called, facebooked me and written congrats here for winning but it just would not do justice to what happened Saturday night in my pit area.
With the rain due on Sunday the right decision was made to try and get the sportsman part of the race run on Saturday until done. Ready to go up for 3rd round my car would not fire up in my pit area. No time to play around I grabbed a can of starter fluid and was able to fire it off. In the 4th round heads up. Now time to change my car completely to as soft as I have ever run it to put it on semi kill. In my pit area ready to do whatever we needed was my partner for the weekend Kevin Fuller, Jimmy and Pam Marshall- Pam holding her phone light so we could see and Jimmy Doing whatever we needed to get done Gene Jordan who I will now call the ice man from this point on. Jimmy Hidalgo asking if he could help and he became the oil and weight guy. How many quarts was that Jimmy? LOL There were a couple of others that I can't remember their names but thank you. Both Jimmy Marshall and Kevin had cans of starter fluid for the next few rounds ready to give me a squirt on most startups. My pit and trailer are normally looking like a bomb went off inside but going from slowest mode to on kill it looked like a tornado went through it. Getting texts from my friends Dan Lynch letting me know who I had next and how they ran the round before. Joe Santangelo Jr texting me at 10:00 pm making sure I was keeping my head on straight and telling me I can do this. Steve Foley what a first-class guy I swear I think he wanted me to win as much as he wanted to. I look forward now in NC to run with guys like him in D2. Getting back to my trailer at 12:10 am that night one of the first guys to congratulate me Was Kevin Helms. Kevin Fuller spent 2 hours picking up my mess knowing it was to rain in the morning. Thanks to Frank Tantilo for doing the work on my car and equipment the last several years. With out him I could not have made it to a single race. Getting a text that night and a call from Jammin Jerry and all of you. That night not sleeping thinking about all that went on I know why I still do this not just because I love to race but because all of you that I do this With. Your special people. Ron Urquhart thanks for stopping by in the morning before you left. Thanks to the NHRA crew on the grounds that make this happen from early morning to well after midnight. They like all of us had the racing needle stuck in their arm for many years. Thanks again Barry Last edited by B Parker; 05-01-2023 at 12:29 PM. |
