Ive had similar issues on cloudy days and night racing picking up the 3rd bulb before it's lit, also at Acton Mt right lane a couple years ago the sun was hitting the tree just right and I couldn't see the tree come down, I moved to the left lane, changed sunglasses, obviously me getting older doesn't help...

I've noticed several tracks have more light on one side then the other. If they don't light up the tree then it's like looking at a back dark spot, when trying to find the bulbs. I would suggest having your headlight functional, if not already. What I did was leave them on high beam and angle them up and out slightly so that they would hit the tree. It's not as good as a spotlight but it will help knock off he glare. Even if you don't have headlight you can install some driving, spot lights that will look good and function. Hope this helps.
