One of the best products for protecting a roll cage, chassis parts, and components is Steel-It. Easy to spray and it needs to air-cure for a few days. After it cures, it will sustain solvents, oils, fuel, and chip resistant.
It is the preferred finish for Trophy Truck chassis and suspension components that are exposed and have to sustain the rough environment of desert racing.

I have used something called sharkhide for bare metal. It’s pretty easy to work with and leaves the original finish
