Default Re: Converter and gearing help...

Somethings definately wrong with the car if you look at the parts used vs the current performance.

I run a 3400 lb 79 Malibu with a 461 bbc , naturally aspirated. Engine has 13 to 1 compression, 269/276 @ .050, .738"/.710 roller, 1000HP 4150 Holley, th400 with a 6000 rpm flash converter, 4.33 gear and a 28" tall tire. Launched off the footbrake anywhere from 2000-3000 rpm, shifts made at 7500 rpm, turning 7700 rpm at the stripe. Typical ET's are 9.50's @ 140 mph, 60's in the high 1/2x to low 1.3x.

As good brought up, large carb, big cam both want rpm to get working. Then a glide which is gonna be soft off the line unless you give it alot of rear gear and alot more stall.

If you want to compare notes, my e-mail is geislert@qis.net.

good luck
Todd
