Rear spring rate is a tuning decision. Typically, there will be 3 or 4 different rate springs that will hold the car at the desired ride height, with different amounts of compression and energy stored to get there..

Lighter springs with some energy stored by being compressed will make it easier to get the housing out and apply the tire than heavier springs. Just as a light spring compressed to hold ride height on the front will promote separation.

Torque, stroke, gear ratios, trans type, tire type, suspension type, are a few of the things that play into that decision.
