Billy all the rear wheel drive cars I ever raced had a natural class.
I don?t know when it became fashionable to go up a class and down a class. If everyone was forced to run their natural class more heads up would result. The AHFS would have a better chance to work if that is what racers want. Forgive me if it doesn?t work for FW drive cars because I don?t have any idea how they work.

Then over time the combined FWD classes and got rid of GF-and FF recently. EF now bottom class at same 17.45 sea level index. (But added 6hp). Imagine you run a G/SA car and one day you wake up and you are magically put into E/SA, and then they also tack on 6.5 percent more HP onto your combo. You would run up a class also at least until you could make both the weight and the E.T. index to get it down to natural DF/S class (the car was never that light the day it drove off the assembly line), It took a ton of work to shave off 345lbs. And do it by the book. It happened, but reality bites because it wasn't a full second faster...yet. Putting the weight back on was a necessary evil. Parts removed went right back on in a day. 2/10ths above index was 2/10s below index at same high elevation track and down 1 class in EF/S I sit. Flogging away spending time and effort to get it to run at elevation what it is proven capable of running at sea level. We do what we must,, heads up or shoe polish driving against much faster dance partners at the stripe. And I prefer both. But the faster the partner in the other lane is the most fun of all.

This was an imaginary thread but how crazy would it be if they allowed me to just race my car at the actual advertised (I have the original 1984 Dodge Daytona Dealer Sales Brochure listing the real life specs of all 3 1984 Editions), at the actual 99HP/2,426 lbs., plus 170 driver or total Min. Wt. of 2,596, instead of 2,795 lbs currently. I would attempt DF/S again. (Somebody lied on actual shipping weights originally by a little to get a little on each car shipped monetarily, and hp output was assigned on engine family (that does not really compare in reality), instead of actual indiv. combo historical real performance
numbers. (They corrected it once on the HP side, then put 6.5 percent back on before I returned). Still chasing my tail, but I will get there in spite of bad math and hurdles. (6 total runs historically in 1995, and in 2023 tell me the possibility exists). But, I have never raced it at either its true advertised weight or horsepower, or both. Now that would be crazy good.

This discussion is almost just like Racers have had since the 60, 70s, '80s, and on and on. The present system implemented by NHRA with a huge amount of seasoned Racing Veterans' input is the best system so far, and I am sure this discussion will be had 15 years from now lol

No 1700, he was right I was whining llke a little girl...no offense to little girls. Lol.
Yes on the request process, no not under the engine family rule, once HP is applied under the AHFS, even if not the specific car/engine combo it says it cannot be reduced. Working on it, will just flog to make it faster. We now have 2 ways to get the ignition completed w/the Holley EFI upgrade so 1 of them should work. Will try both right after this week of Bracket racing. Lol.

Hi Jim! I'd be OK with that! I don't think that you'll find much support for it though. It would also send Racers scurrying back to the Classification guide to find the many combos and classes that time has forgotten.
