I hate the AHFS. I personally think that Stk/SS is a performance class and should be treated as such. ie; qualified field, lane choice to the lower qualifier, routine tear downs, etc. However, I realize NHRA has chosen not to go in that direction. NHRA has chosen the AHFS as a means to police the class. With that being the case, I don’t see the logic in waiving the AHFS at certain events. The system simply will not work as designed under these circumstances.

I did not see the No Mineshaft on the NHRA website.

The mineshaft rule actually works against you if you make a fast run. It takes away all of the runs for the weekend that could be used to lower the average. Not just the fast run.

This is especially bad at the end of the year.

Unhappy Re: No Mine Shaft for 2025!

I think every new rule idea submitted was shot down by the rules committee. Some that I heard that got submitted for Stock were allowing addition valve reliefs to solve the piston ding problem, and allowing pistons to be made with the smaller size ring lands so racers would not have to use spacers. Both got shot down. I'm sure there were more. The poll that was taken to see if racers wanted the indexes lowered had a very low percentage of eligible racers voting, and it was shot down.

As you are not allowed to notch pistons for valve clearance, NHRA saw fit to make it illegal to allow your valves to do the job.
