Im currently building a 97' Cavalier to race in the super street class and i was wondering whats mandatory for nhra certification... is it ok to run a 6 point cage or does it have to be 8 point and up? The other question was if its alright to weld the roll bar with a mig welder instead of a tig welder... does it really matter? or are you suppost to use mig on it...? PLEASE HELP ME!!!! HA HA HA!!!! :-)

Depends on the speed you will run. If over 135 you need to follow the rules for SG. Then it also depends on the ET of the car. Different rules for 8.50 or 7.50 etc. Also you can only MIG mild steel. If using CM it must be TIGged.

Put a cage in it that will certify. It will increase the value of the car if you ever decide to sell it.

If the car retains the stock fire wall and floor, and does not exceed 135 MPH then the 6 point bar is acceptable.

Just make sure you position the roll bar in a place where it can be added onto for the future. If you decide you want to go faster, you wont want to cut out what you already have. Under 135, 6 point and mig weld is o.k. on mild steal
