Honestly that's how I'm interpreting it as well. The verbiage of the rule was murky at best, so they have created a rule to clear any doubt or confusion. Props to SRAC and NHRA for putting this debacle to a swift end.

Well...
After pondering on this a bit... I feel even though the pecker extender is not in the spirit of Stock/SuperStock... I think I'm less offended by the pecker extender than the automated shifters... Personally, I don't think either should be legal in Stock/SuperStock... Or Comp... |

Still legal in Factory Stock Showdown? How many even noticed them in the recent event pics posted from the other eastern 4 lane dragstrip?

I believe the A in the class designation stands for Automatic. It does not say how the automatic shift is initiated. Internal, air, electronic, cable, push button, etc.

Not all classes still have the /A or /S designation.

And not all "computer controlled cars" have electronic automatic transaxles/transmissions and readily available off the shelf reasonably priced solutions. If allowing the rule, just allow all to use the easier and cheaper pneumatic shifter solution.
Just easily strike out the exception for computer controlled cars. That is just called leveling the playing field for all.
