Will be interesting how they write the rules - current sport Compact all motor rules allow full tube chassis, non-oem body panels (1pc front ends) and Methanol - it's more of a Comp class than Super Stock but I know the Comp guys would go ballistic if they added a class with cars that ONLY run high 9's.
BTW - since they added the turbo FWD classes into Comp I don't believe a single one has attendedn an event. Don't look for an overtaking.

I'd bet money that this is just damage control by NHRA. After eliminating the Sport Compact Series and sending it over to NOPI, and now NOPI having financial problems and suspending operations, these guys have no place to race. They were already pissed off when NHRA handed them over to NOPI, and I know a few of them were already talking PST lawsuit. If NHRA can make a few classes to show that they didn't eliminate them completely and actually gave them an alternative place to race, any such lawsuit would probably be seen as frivilous and thrown out.
Regardless, I bet the number of sport compacts you see running in S/S will never be any more than the number of FWD cars you see running in S/S...

Just read somewhere, NHRA is also going to setup some more classes in Comp for the faster Imports. Hmmm, let's see, 3 seconds under the current SS index should get ya into the 128 car field. How would it feel if say, we have 128 of these cars that no one has a clue of what they should be rated at? Class winners of combinations where guys have beat on a combination for 30-40 years ( NHRA factored, I might add) can go home. Nothing at all against imports or FWD (come real close to building one at one time) but holy cow, WAKE UP NHRA. |
