What a range of comments. Good intentions to be sure, but certainly misguided in many cases.

You certainly should utilize an air filter. As long as it's the correct one. The key is evaluating media performance under the conditions/flow rates that these cars will face. We lab/track test our competition filters routinely. You can have engine protection and high flow as well.

Cotton gauze, is not, nor was it ever designed to be, an engine air filter media. Avoid it and avoid foam filters at all times.
