Sound like the trans is going away. Check the fluid and filter, you may not be able to hear or feel it, but it may be slipping. Usually they will get slower not faster, but you never know. With some heat in it, it may expand everything a little and not slip as much. I chased a consistancy problem once and it turned out to be the tranny, didn't show any signs of trouble. Put the tried and true one back in and the car came right back to where it used to be. Then again it wasn't .2 it was .03-.05.

I had the same problen with my car. I found that the front tires were hitting the inner fenderwells. When the car would get the wheels up the car would come down hard and the front tires would rub the inner fenderwells thus acting like the brakes were being applied. when the car would spin the tires a little bit the front end would stay down. no tire rub and the car would pick up. I corrected the problem by installing a good set of double adjustable front shocks. I also put a set of new front wheels with more offset to the inside to help clear the wheel well. No more scrubbing and much more consistent. Check your front wheel wells to see if the paint is rubbed off. I have a 68 camaro.

Ill let you know what happends this weekend. Fresh trans/converter going in. I noticed some consistancy...(only 2 runs) with my trans temp gauge. Both runs were made at 125 degrees for the trans and it ran within .006 of eachother. Thats getting better. Would have loved to make more runs but you can go rounds with a .228 light ![]()

Wow, that is cool on the trans temp....think you could get 160 or so to start the day?
175-180 is supposed to be "optimum" trans temp, and it can make a huge difference. |

I warmed it up to 150 and it seemed to not like it. It fell off a tenth. Could be a trans/converter issue I donno. I have never had a trans temp gauge and dont really want to get into looking at another one...but if it will help me go rounds im in. When I bought the motor off my friend the lines were looped on the trans...the trans builder said put a cooler on it...who do I believe?? Its got a cooler on it now and really dont want to remove it.

Getting the heat in the trans and not the engine is tough.
I've never run a gauge either, but I do know that my car picks up a touch if I get on the two step too early, and it picks up after the warm-up pass, coolant temp is always the same. I've also run a trans without a cooler, saw no difference there, but I keep the cooler on my good transmission. |
