Just in case you all forgot, IHRA also actually cut the sportsman purses in 2005
(the same year they dropped division 5). First round winner money was removed as of 2005 and obviously never returned with the entry fee increases. They really need to get the payouts up if they expect to attract more NHRA cross over racers. |

NHRA nor IHRA's purses have come close to keeping up. When I quit drag racing in 1979 a Div 4 NHRA points race paid about the same as now. In the early '70s Indy paid Stock Eliminator about ten grand with all the correct contingencies. If you had to kill your record (before this soft index bs) in the final to win you could collect enough to build another car. Today, if you are one of the guys that have to buy engines, winning Indy won't pay for a new engine. Be really close if you build your own. There are so many classes now, like the old AHRA, I don't see how a class contingency sponsor can afford to keep doing it.

I would like to see the top 8 in points go to the last race and run for the championship. They would be separated from the rest of the cars in the same category and run each other one time (7 rounds total). The driver with the most round wins is the champ. Ties would be determined by which driver won the round they raced each other, then by points earned during the season. They would not be in the regular eliminator race, so someone who is not in the top 8 would win it. Whoever wins the championship this way would have earned it.

I know guys that have a Super Stock car that can run with all of the class, They dont have the $$ to race the whole season, they have family The only reason racers are scared of this new system is because they are scared someone will be better than them,,,, In racing thats what its all about anyways,,, If you loose you loose, it doesnt make a difference if its a local racer or not, a loose is a loose If this were NHRA id say no, NHRA is the big $$$ racers and they can afford it, Alot of people look at IHRA as the sportsman rankings for the working man. The racers that are dominating are scared of someone being better than them, otherwise they wouldnt care because they have the best car out there, or do they?? |
