I was there when that happened...actually at another racers trailer that wasn't too far from there. We were wondering what all the commotion was about.

Whatever happened with that? I'm sure there was a lawsuit? What did NHRA do, simply take the grandstands down rather than fix them?

Post Re: Ohio based "90 series"?

As this is my first post here, allow me to introduce myself.

I am Christopher Stilwell and I am the Facility Operations Manager at National Trail Raceway, starting in the position before the 2008 racing season. I also am a licensed NHRA Super Comp and ET racer, but this position and my brother ability to drive as well doesn't give me the chance to race as I would like. I am posting to inform you all about the 2009 Jegs Super Series at the track.

After meeting with several Super Series racers after the season, General Manager Jim Layton and our crew have listened to several thoughts about the series and are looking to make the series better for everyone. Below are a couple of points that have been addresses.

1. Schedule: The 2009 schedule for NTR is preliminary and posted on the website. The Super Series events have been placed in order for those to take advantage of practicing before several NHRA National and Divisional event in Ohio.

#1 - June 20th
#2 - June 21st (Weekend before NHRA National Event @ SREMP)
#3 - July 18th (Weekend before NHRA LODRS event @ NTR)
#4 - September 12th
#5 - September 13th (Before the Jegs Northern Sportsnationals @ NTR)
#6 - October 4th (Final points event)

These events have very minimum conflict with NHRA or IHRA National or Divisional events around the area. We also will have a points series in all three Super Series classes. Different this season is that each racer will claim their best five of the six scheduled events.

2. Time Constraits: One of the major issues raised was the amount of time it takes on Sundays for our races to conclude. It was determined that for at least the Super Series classes, on June 21st and September 13th, they will only have one time trial before eliminations. This will cut the time it takes to run the event and make the drive back for racers, and track employees alike, easier.

3. Track Conditions: The beginning Super Series event was on a "green" track at the start of the season. Those at the meeting said the track was better than ever throughout the rest of the season. It is our goal to have the best track possible every time a car stages and we will continue to do so.

4. Rollout: At the track, I also setup the classes into the computer which includes rollout. The setup for our Super Series in the computer is the same as that setup by NHRA for the Divisional and the Sportsnationals. We will evaluate the entire starting system for possible problems before the 2009 season begins.

I'm sorry for the long post, but this information may help those that are looking for other places to race .90 series classes that are not Divisionals and Nationals. Following the 4th event of the season, the Super Series at NTR will be re-evaluated for the future. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM me here on CLASS RACER. I appreciate any thoughts.

Have a safe and productive winter and success on the track in 2009.

For the past couple years I have supported 90 racing at Columbus as much as possible. I think it's great that NTR gives us another place to race. I would greatly enjoy entering your points program ,however, in the past I have encountered scheduling problems and have not been able to do so. This year appears to be no different. Your June 20 & 21 weekend is scheduled the same weekend as an IHRA sportsman national and 2 division events in Byron, IL. Your July 18 date is on top of the IHRA Canadian Nationals and the September 12 & 13 date is on top of the NHRA D5 event in Earlville. For any racers attempting to make the IHRA Tournament of Champions, and are located north of NTR, Byron and Grand Bend are about as close as it gets! Same goes for Earlville as an NHRA out of division claim. I hardly call this "very minimal conflict". I know this is just my case and maybe most of your potential customers won't be chasing the IHRA, I just wanted to point this out. I would love to be able to run your points program.

PS: the track has always been good for me!

luckydog: Thanks for your thoughts and kind words.

I understand that their are a some conflicts with a couple of IHRA dates as well as the D5 race in Earlville. The goal was to try to stay away from as many National and Divisional races as possible. As we all know, when the NHRA and IHRA schedules are announced (along with our scheduled larger events) it can leave small wiggle room as to scheduling an series like this without stepping on something. We were successful in staying away from the NHRA Division 3 areas and the IHRA Division 3, with Grand Bend in Canada being the only exception. I hope that we can have a successful season in 2009, and hope to see everyone at the track whenever possible.

Chris, This schedule is great! The 5% Rule, nothing works for everyone. We will be coming this year for the first time. Just thought I would shine some light on the other side of the coin.$

Eddie, Give Rocks motor back and stay home would ya, # thirtysomething!

Best Regards, Jeff

Understood! Like I said, it was just my case. Good luck with the series. If I win at Byron in June, I'll be at NTR in July!

Hey Lucky Dog, I was not taking a shot at you. Sorry if you got that. I just wanted to say that in the opposite, it works perfectly for me. No matter what dates, some of us wont make it. Best of Luck, Jeff
