I received a phone call from my Sponsor, who was at the PRI Show at the time, and he asked me if I had received my check from his company for a race I had won the month of November.I told him his was the second check I had received,K&N was the first, and it took only three weeks for his check to reach my mail box.He was unhappy with the association that I had won the race at, because he had received the list of winners for the last FOUR MONTHS of events, the week before I received my check. He explained to the owner of the association that he wanted the results sent to him the day or two after the race so he could mail the winner and r/up checks the very next day.His point on the matter is, he feels the LATE CHECK ARRIVAL reflects on his company and he feels his customers are not getting the service they deserve. He offers great customer service with his company and APPRECIATES ALL his customers.MY POINT is WHY don't ALL Companys have this attitude.I read on here and else where that the economy sucks and yet there are businesses that are surviving and they rely on our dollars to make it.
My question to you racers; would you spend your hard earned dollars with a company that offers great customer service and a great product or spend your money with a company that offers so so or no customer service and a cheaper price, since the value of the dollar is so important these days? I also would like to know what we,as racers and customers, can do to get these companys to pay the Contingency checks in a reasonable amount of time.We pay for the products immediately,so why can't they pay ASAP. |

My son won a Super Stock Eliminator race at a Div 1 IHRA race at Quaker City in August of '08, with all the products and decals certified by an IHRA Official. My first check was from JEG's and then the balance of the checks just seemed to trickle in except MILIDON and JET-HOT. I did receive a phone call from Ken Sink of Milidon in late November, to the effect that there was some mix-up on the part of IHRA as to who the winner's were, and to expect the check in '09. However, I have not received anything from Matt Petrauskas of JET-HOT. I have sent him 28 e-mails to no avail with the last half of them cc'd to IHRA. I have encouraged all of my racer friends to not do business with Jet-Dog, and plan to overwrite their decal on the racecar with lemons. JET-HOT is an imperfect vacuum.

Next time you need coatings or even headers for that matter, NitroPlate! You won't be disapointed!

I also spoke with Milodon and they explained some clerical problems that bogged down some of the payouts, with apologies. They have been pretty good in the past. If you think about it, it is a major undertaking to keep track and keep up with ALL of the sanctions. An occasional stumble is understandable.

We have been dealing with MILODON for around 15 years and no complaints of product or service. Ken will be coming to east coast in february to visit some engine builders and retailers .If you need anything let me know. I will be with him during this visit. He will be flying in at Raleigh ,N.C. So we will be on east coast and inland a few days. Any engine builders in this area let me know and we will try to get you on the visit list .Thanks for supporting MILODON ! !

NHRA post a list of demands set by each sponsor for the racer to follow in order to be paid. Why is there no rule for the companies? If there is, where can we find it? I think they dont really care to much, for them it looks good to post the list, makes it seem like they have something more to offer. I think IHRA and NHRA should get the money up front and THEY should mail it to you with your winnings. If they dont pay up front, then they probably shouldnt be involved anyway. Hats off to people like Jegs and your sponsor who get it to you ASAP. They will get my buisseness before the other guy will.

I just received a check from Jet Hot for my win at Milan 6-1-08. I don't mind that it takes a long time for a sponsor to send me contingency money if they are not one of those companies that make you jump thru hoops to qualify for the contingency i.e. send a letter asking for receipts, warranty card info(that they already have on file) and give you 30 days to comply, yet they take 6 months to pay you..

I've been a racer for over thirty years and have bought alot of parts throughout the years. That being said ,I ALWAYS buy parts from a Contingency Company that sells quality parts.I run my racing as a business and this is a good return for my business bank account.
I really think Contingency Companys would be better off having their own IN-HOUSE Program. The company wouldn't have to pay the fees that the associations charge and they could deal directly with their customers.I know my Sponsor's business has done VERY WELL,including now during these poor economic times. He always renews with NHRA and some of the other associations and he tells me every year we renew my contract that he makes money off the Contingency programs by selling product.I think this mentioned business etiquette and customer service is a win win sititutation for both the racer and sponsor. |

Answer to the original question. At my work we have a saying Quality never goes out of style. In the long run you will get more return on your investment with quality. I do check to see who is on the contingency list but do not nessarly buy parts off it knowing of the ones that are a pain in the butt to deal with. There are some good companies that do pay right away the few times I have receive contingency, K&N was the first to pay both times. At the next race I saw Steve Williams I went and thank him and he appreciated that and was going to thank his people for that and let them know racers appreciated it.
