Joe, I appreciate your offer to help. I am building a L/SA 60 and the 283 hpr is 230 NHRA rated @ 215 I am being told (by Mr. Wesley Roberson NHRA DIV4 official ) I must use the stock Corvette rear housing (third member type). I am awaiting a ruling on the use of a 12 bolt or olds rear for this build from Mr. Bob Lang thru Mr. Jim Collins DIV 2 Tech Director. You could e-mail me to let me know what you use.....I will let you know what I find out about this....should know something tomorrow while at Richmond.
Thanks again Joe, Wade

Sounds like a failure to communicate.
The IRS Vettes use a straight 12 bolt housing as a rule. Look at Sammy's or Dave Casey's

I think Jim Marshall is the only one still running the "stock" rear-end in a Corvette. (that's what Jim told me anyway)

Joe Santangelo Sr and I , raced a 283 61 Vette years ago . (make that decades ago) We had to live with 230 hp back then. The 245 hp , 2 -4 bbl wasn't too bad until the 350/255 Chevelles got popular.
Not much under the hood room . Of course ,you could leave the hood unlatched..... Nah, better not. It's illegal. Of course there's always thick body mounts...

Wade I have a set of adjustable Stahl headers for that combo. Good shape too.

Thank you all for the information you provided. Hopefully when I get this car up and running I will be able to thank you in person. You'll know it's me and you'll see that I put your input to good use. Thanks again, Wade

Wade, with that high RPM little 3" stroke 283, and a 'glide, in a 3300 pound car...
that factory rear end, with the right components, is ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
I've been using them, and ONLY them, in 55-64 cars for 30 years.... including my brother's all steel 55 Chevy street car, with a big block, that ran a 9.70 @ 140 MPH.
