I don't know the figures but i've been told the tracks don't pay all that much to hold a div. race. Most tracks only have one per season anyway, and some have an open also.If they dropped the divisional and replaced it with a booked in show, say a nostalgia race, pro mods,NMCA,ford race, mopar race, you got the idea, they probably would make more $$$ and it would only tie up 2 days and not 3. Dave, don't you realise we're all brontosaurus's now?

bottom line guys is these little events like the Buckeye Stock/SS series, the Southern SS/Stock association, East Coast SS/Stk association, USA series, Heartland series, CanAm and Midwest SS/Stk series (sorry if i missed any), we all need to support these series, they might be the best thing going pretty soon for SS & Stock racers and face it lots of them are weekend or one day only events where he or she doesn't have to take off work to race.

Its a tough sell to get outside racers into S/SS. At 22, I'm a rare exception but for the most part there aren't alot of new racers in the classes regardless of age. I bought my car about a year ago and have had a lot of fun running the class and have met a bunch of great people. I decided to go the stocker route because it was something dad had always kind of wanted to do but never did it and I thought it would be cheaper than getting into a 4-link dragster (not really sure what I was thinking there, lol). With entry fees and payouts what they are for divisionals and nationals, and the dwindling contingencies, it makes it even tougher. Atleast with a super class car you have the option to run local and big money bracket races.

I thought TS/TD were already National classes?
Didn't ND list them in the 4- 5 category winners last week? I'm surprised nobody commented on it then.

They aren't at National events yet but they are at most divisionals now.
Not to be contrary (not me!) but I would welcome them at Nationals IF they replaced S/G and S/C. No bog, dial in racing is something the fans can understand and we (S & S/S) might watch. Mid to high 6 second, 200 MPH + cars could be interesting. S/G and S/C, throw away your throttle stops and go racing.

Mason,
Be careful what you wish for it may backfire. .90 has more cars and less tech than S/SS. Which one goes first? Chip |

I believe that Stock and Superstock have a lot of history and should continue to be run at National Events...
I also feel that Top Sportsman / Top Dragster should be run at Nationals as well. The TS/TD cars are fast and exciting to watch. People would much rather see 6 second 200 mile per hour cars than somthing slower. I do believe that the problem comes with the Super Gas / Super Comp cars... Nothing is more irritating than a throttle stop in my opinion!!! But there are soo many guys running these "Super" classes that it is more likely for NHRA to push out the Stock and SuperStock guys... Unfortunate, but it appears this is the way things are going.

If you guys remember, X-TECH and I threw this out there a few months ago.... we kinda said, "watch out for T/D and T/S".... may reasons were simple.... dollars and cents.... which to NHRA is interpreted as SENSE MAKES DOLLARS....
At the National Event at E-town, NHRA was short staffed in both the parking and tech areas.... taking that into consideration, I felt that they may have been testing the waters just to see how many staff people they can do without... a lot of people, me included, complained about getting there early, only to sit outside in a field for 4 to 6 hours... the explanation was short staffing.... WHY????... maybe just a test... but I'm not laughing.... Dropping Comp, Stock and S/S would look to be a natural move if you're sitting in the NHRA board room... you would be dropping classes that require a lot of tech people and time, but replacing them with classes that need a lot less to run.... and that means dollars and cents.... Just my opinion, but the .90 classes aren't going anywhere, and T/D and T/S are coming in.... |

That is an unfortunate fact for the stock / superstock guys... Even with all its history, it is not a money maker for NHRA anymore... A class of the past... I already know many who have turned there stock / superstock cars into .90 or bracket cars... One of which being a former National Record Holder!!! NHRA is in the business of making money... T/S and T/D are their best bet right now... On a side note, if NHRA was to get with the times, they would get rid of Pro Stock Bike and replace it with Pro Modified.
