Well, you know how the S/SS racers like to hang their you-know-whats out. The ruler does seem a little small though. Maybe that ruler is just for the lower classes.

They were designed to fit right in the rule book so tech guy could use it as a quick reference before looking through the book. the ruler on it was just there to have one more aid to help speed things up.
Have a stack of them in my shop somewhere.

I'm going to guess that the height is used to measure the minumum ground clearance. A kind of "go/no go" gauge.

It does look like it is 8" from end to end. Wonder why it doesn't read like that? Probably so when there was a complaint, they had a margin of error.

travis used it in the 1970's to measure bore & stroke... LOL

Probably used for a book mark as well for the rule book . Seems like the rule book was close to that length
