Now it's a crime for people to overpay for a car....it's their friggen money so they can do anything they want with it......This is still America ain't it....
Maybe some of you would be happier if Obama had a government agency to look into and regulate car prices ![]() ![]() So if and when we overthrow the government AND NHRA we get all the cars back ![]() All NHRA members who have paid their dues for at least 20 years...like myself..gets a free Classic muscle car of his or her choice....and all the rich guys who have them now get bicycles made in China.... ![]() ![]()

no brain rich a$$holes spiking the prices because they can. Go out and try to buy a decent condition model of car that these idiots over inflate and see what the owner wants for it. I want to see what you'll say this summer when gas goes to about $3.50 to $4.00 a gallon. I'll bet you won't take that sitting down.

Seven or eight years ago Barrett Jackson Scottsdale had a big influence on the market. That is no longer the case, if you look at the prices at the other auctions around the country you will find them to be reasonable and in line with the actual value of the car.
Barrett Jackson is a circus and guys with big egos and wallets go to show off. Many of those cars are built just for that auction because of this. Ed, RELAX and enjoy the car show! |

![]() Who wouldn't want a perfect Amphicar in his personal museum. The convertible 58 Impala was a 348 with a three on the tree. That sounds like fun to drive. ![]() The LS-6 '70 Chevelle prices are over inflated at B-J Mecum auction prices seem to be closer to "real world" prices |

What's all the fuss about. I saw cars on Tuesday, Wedesday and Thursday go for prices that you could'nt get the body work and paint for. If it cost too much for a car, or if a person thinks his junk in the barn is golden.....DON'T BUY IT! Comparing it to gas prices is not the same. Most folks need fuel, they don't need a 58 chevy. Everyone on the property shares the same passion "CARS". Some can't build S#@T, but are keeping the culture alive by participating in some manner. Even if they are just attending a big BJ car show, they're keeping what you love alive. It does my heart good to see that there are some people in this country that build some really nice cars. I'm going out in the shop and fire up my ole wood stove. I'll be doing what I do best "build my own stuff". My 60 Corvette was not a "$$golden$$" barn find, but it was a BF for sure. But it will be "golden" when I'm done, and done with dedication, perseverance, and pride!

I agree with Wade. There was a Ford Starliner that went for around $20,000.00 on Tuesday that the chrome was probably $ 10,000.00. I will have to say that the Salone cars last night wereover priced, but like the 67 Nova, could you build that car for $100,000.00. Wade or someone like him could, but the average guy that can do some himself and other's to do a lot couldn't. It like the tread about building your own car vs. those that have their cars built, not everyone has the resorces or skills to do everything.

Someone could really pick up a nice "hot rod" for half the cost it would take to replicate it. Listen to how many times the announcers say "they got the car for free" when they sell a 25K-30K show quality car. I'm sure we've all been there, done that (letting costs get out of control). That goes for anything you invest time and money in....houses too! ![]() Last edited by blkjack; 01-22-2011 at 09:07 AM. |

Barrett Jackson is built on theatrics and hype. But in their defense..
All cars are put up there at NO RESERVE... Many cars appear to be either the best out there or close to it Mecum auction cars are way more reasonably priced and don't look to be near 100 point cars on many. And the bidders look like average people on many shows. Prices are much more realistic. Ever notice all the big time players at B-J.......Familiar faces ...drag racers, Nascar owners and these people with mega bucks that are always there every year. They drive the whole deal. You can't sell hot dogs to people used to Fillet Mignon... In the mid '70s I worked in a very prominent auto restoration shop for a short while. At the time the owner specialized in Packards. We had one car that had bills for over $100,000 in labor and parts and this was the mid '70'. There's no way you can restore one of these old cars to top of the line condition without spending a fortune........ I enjoy seeing the cars in awesome condition and really don't care what they sell for. Sure I'd love to have many of them but it's not happening. I have friends with various cars and they do the car show thing. That would not be something I would do. Today is saturday and the B-J auction usually rolls out the really high dollar overpriced cars tonight....... The T/K Chevelle from a few years ago was pretty much the most insane price I ever saw......The Car went for over a million and was sold again for 1/4th of that a year or two later.....makes sense to me ![]()
