My wife was reading about Scott Kallita's accident, and asked why there isn't anybody that makes fireproof chutes? I never gave it any thought! Is there some company that can make fireproof chutes? Cost can not be a factor! ..........R.I.P. SCOTT , John & Ginny Lang

Watch or telecast again. Most of the pro's and I mean almost all of them only used one chute.

I only saw the accident once but it seemed like the chute tangled up and never deployed. I don't think it burned off but as I say I only saw it once.

I didn't see the accident, I don't think that it's necessary that the racer is to blame for the chutes, crap happens. The Navy, they have nets that can catch fighter jets going 150 to 200 mph on the decks of carriers. I sure that the jets weight a bunch more then a fuel car. I'm totaly disappointed with NHRA that they haven't stepped up to the facilities safety equipment. Shouldn't the sanction body look at the safety of the racer that is beyond the racers control? This isn't the first time the nets didn't work, they didn't even stop a stocker in Gainesville going well under 150 mph!

I'm going to agree with Bill. I hope that the NHRA doesn't just try to cover this up and sweep it under a rug, with hopes that we will all just forget like they did with Darrell Russell.

My brother who was the lead in Earnhardts death was flown to NJ by NHRA Sunday night to gather data and try to figure out what happened. He also worked with NHRA on the Darrell Russell wreck. The car was still under power when it hit at the end so even though the explosion the motor was still running.
