Question New guy wants to go super stock racing

I would like to run super stock next year but the IHRA rule book is very confusing, so I thought if I put it out in front of the folks who know maybe i could get some idea as to changes that need to be made and what class I could fit in. Here's what I'm starting with :

-70 Ply Duster 3200 +/- w/ driver
-All steel body (expt fiberglass LIFTOFF 6 pack hood)
-All factory glass
-Factory dash
-415 cid 340 stroker motor
-hyd cam
-single plane hi rise intake
-stock oiling
-stock eng location
-727 w/ man rev valve body
-stock lenth rear axle with leaf springs moved in board
-factory rear wheel wells no tubs no rolled lip, only small radius on front edge of qtr panel
-28x9 slicks or 29.5x10.5 either will fit.
-12 point roll cage with halo

any help would be great i love to see the super stockers run @ Roxboro & Piedmont, and would love to get to play too!!!!

How fast is it currently? Might take a look at Super Stock Modified. SS/BM min weight 3278#, 6.30 index...

Your hood my be in question but Stroker motor is out. You may go 70 over bore but must use stock stroke crank.

We're woking out several bugs in the chassis set up, we've run in the 7:60's. I have access to a steel hood, would it be easier to change to a crate motor??? I've talked to the guys @ Mopar Perfm about building a crate motor like the ones they built for the round track "claimer " racers.

Unfortunately, the combo doesn't look competitive or legal in any Stock or SS class.

* Engine size and fiberglass hood not legal for "regular" SS.
* Current cubic inches would make it much heavier for SS/BM
* 727 trans. and hydraulic cam are big disadvantages.
* Although some combos can be made to hook on small tires, they are likely a disadvantage also.
* SS/BM indexes: 1/4 mile - 9.70, 1/8 mile - 6.30
* A legal 340 SS/JA combo, which includes a steel hood, I believe has to weigh 3,261 lbs race weight with the following indexes: 1/4 mile 11.30, 1/8 mile - 7.30.

A crate motor Stock combo has to follow the specs from the IHRA "accepted list" which includes specific 360 Commando and Magnum engines. I think it would be difficult to get an out-of-the-box crate motor to run its repective index. Spring location would have to be confirmed with IHRA tech to be on the safe side.

Chris, if you built an engine that is a corporate match like a 340 you may could fit into SS/PEA @ 3230 lbs. (9 x 340 + 170) Stock stroke and .070 max over bore. You can get by on skinny tires if your suspension is set up right. I run on 10.5 tires in SS/PCA and SS/BM. Indexes are 10.25 1/4 and 6.70 1/8. Fiberglass hood is ok in super stock production. Get that good looking mopar together and come and race w/ us!
