Default Turbo 350 v Proflite

Is one of these a faster tranny than the other? I am assembling a SS/DM Camaro and was persuaded to go with the (Coan) Turbo. Someone has since said the Proflite was faster. Is this true? I do realize that I am essentially braket racing once I cover the index, but want the fastest setup I can find.

485 of you helpful brain surgeons looked at this post, and not a one of you had an opinion to offer. I guess there isn't room in this little clique for anyone new to join in. Thank you very much!

I have not run either, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. However most of the guys in Comp run Proflites which makes me assume they are faster. Don't know if it would be worth the extra cost in your car either.
Good Luck,
Bill

I would say that you need to look at what 2nd gears are available that will work best for your particular combo then make a decision from there. Both are fast......

I run the Coan 350, never had a Pro-flite, from the gear ratio selection and the internal components I doubt one is faster than the other. Someone with some very deep pockets may be able to compare the two. but I doubt there's much if any. Joe P.S. and lighten up sometimes it takes a while to get a response here

You're asking a question for which there is no set correct answer.

I do not know anyone who has done any serious A-B-A testing, for one thing, and considering the two transmissions would be over $10K by themselves, I'd say I know why.

The next thing is when you get to that level, the difference may be less than 0.05 and maybe 0.5 MPH. So you're asking for the car to be able to repeat pass to pass far less than that in order to get a valid test.

Finally, the converter and the gear ratios are more likely to make a real difference. I know the Coan has a huge list of possible gear combinations available. For a smaller engine and/or a heavier car, the correct gear ratios may be so important that they will be the big deciding factor. And unless you know someone with an absolutely identical car, you'll be the one figuring that part out.

If I am a brain surgeon why would I have an answer about transmissions! Any way you need to have a Doctors salary to be able to test both of these and get an accurate fact which is why some of us racers do not have an answer but an opinion!!

Sorry for the attitude. I guess I was feeling a little neglected. The reason for the question was, I was concerned that I'd made a mistake by going with the TH 350. One advantage to the Turbo is, if I ever set the car up for SS/IA, I can use the trans that I have
