Thumbs up PBIR Open House (formerly Moroso MP)

I attended an open house last Sunday at PBIR, with an opportunity to meet George Case in person. Although a work in progress, the facility is very impressive. Excluding the tower structure and maintenance building, the entire racing property had been bulldosed and excavated. The dragstrip surface is nothing short of incredible, with the entire track, not just the 1/4 mile, being concrete!! George told me Penhall had just completed milling and polishing earlier last week. Website photos don't do justice.( racepbir.com/drag.html )

Like other premier NHRA facilities they've added an additional 200 ft. with an inclined sand pit approx 60 yards long and safety net. Barrier walls extend end to end with drain ducts every 30 feet or so, having lanes with an approx 1 degree taper to aid in track drying. An LED tree with blinders (FINALLY!!) was also set up. Staging lanes and pit parking have been paved/repaved with a modern drainage system throughout.

Restrooms, perminent concessions and administration buildings have yet to be completed, but should be by early next year. This is not surprising since they're doing nothing half-assed, paying attention to detail!!

In addition to renovations, Sunoco fuel service has been replaced by VP, with specialty fuels available during certain events (or when fuel check is enforced). George emphasizes the facility will be very CLASS RACER FRIENDLY and plans to host multiple sportsman events starting next year.

BTW Stock & Super Stock will be contested at the Citrus Nats this year for sure. Unlike the past, however, George hinted they might be run as separate eliminators "because when you do it right, you'll attract enough participants to justify and besides we never believed in running combos at Maple Grove." .

This weekend is the nostalgia race when I should have a better feel how the "new guard" works out. Stay tuned.

Gary, I think I remember seeing in an earlier post that it might go IHRA. Any word on which way it will go? Thanks for staying on top of things in the Sunshine State. Mike

PBIR will be a first class facility with George Case at the helm. Florida racers are lucky to have him at that track. Good luck George, from the old gang at Maple Grove!

Wishful thinking...George says NHRA ...at least for now. BTW I spoke to him again today, they started prepping the surface for Friday opening. Sure is refreshing to speak with and know we finally have a knowledgeable track operator.
