Default Friday at Pomona

It's something of a stretch to come up with an interesting description of today's conditions at the Fairplex. The closest i can come would be to suggest that you turn on your home A/C, stand in the shower, open the cold water faucet, stand in the stream and look up.

Actually, the rain today was not unrelenting. It was just that it came and went with little warning. There were a few times when the track dryers were actually fired up but I was left with the impression that the arrival of each new set of rain cells was somehow connected to some sort of atmospheric disturbance created by the dryers. By noon, I didn't care if they ran without me or not. I left the track and headed home.

I've now observed that NHRA.com has announced that tomorrow's program will carry on with pro qualifying on the original schedule. The Yahoo.com and the MSNBC.com weather forecasts for my zip code (91722), located less than ten miles west of the track suggest that the next likely clear day will be Tuesday. There may be windows of opportunity for the Pros to run on Saturday or Sunday but precious little time is likely to be available for the portions of the show that matter to us. It's going to be a crapshoot and I'm keeping my calendar cleared through the middle of the week.

Chuck ~ Thanks for the reporting. I talked to Don this morning and he said he was spending his time drinking coffee and eating. With the prolonged rain forecast he'll probably have to diet when he returns home! Good luck whenever you do get to run!

SO, would they just keep moving the race out a day at a time
until they got it run??

Isn't there another race in AZ the next weekend?

Phil,

In the past, the occasional rainy weekend has been addressed by either postponing until the next weekend or by continuing eliminations into the first part of the following week. The determining factor is most likely related to elements such as ticket refunds and the Pro show. Several of us have competed in events that were handled one way or another. In one long ago year, in the late '70s, the show stretched into a third weekend and at one point featured an attack of sleet-like precipitation that many non-winter-wise Californians frequently refer to as the "year that it snowed in Pomona."

The National Open scheduled on the weekend between the Winternationals and the Phoenix race will be a non-factor in the decision to finish this race one way or the other.

Chuck, I can't stop laughing at your first post, about the weather today. That is funny.
And it isn't looking to good for the rest of the weekend. Jim DeFrank called me this afternoon
and said all they had done all day was stay in their trialer and eat junk food that Frank
Grossi had brought. LOL Makes me really sad that our motor wasn't finished. NOT LOL
Nice to be home out of the elements. I do feel sorry for all the Racers that have come a
long distance with the economy like it is. This does not help their budgets.

Jan

Weather is really that bad, huh? Looks like the computer guys are feeling a little under the weather too...

Man, this is real frustrating not being able to get on the track," said NHTA Top Fuel world champion Tony Schumacher.

Antron Brown, last year's surprise low qualkifier in Top Fuel, joked,....

If you cannot tell I am extremely bored waiting for some cars to run down the track again...Thursday was great sitting at the computer listening to Stock, but nothing today sucks. Looks like NHRA made some budget cuts as far as proofreaders go though.

Each of these mistakes was found in the article on NHRA.com about the weather today. I have in no way altered these but rather just copied and pasted.
