it is time for new batteries. i run stock with a 67 chevelle with most of the orginal wiring still in tact, and i fire the car with the key. would 16 volt batteries hurt any of the orginal equiptment? i am caught up in deciding to choose the 16 volt system or a set of optimum batteries. any insight would be appreciated. i already have a power master alt.
thanks Ian |

I run a 16 volt battery with no alt.In my 1987 monte ss and still has the factory wiring in it.I do have an electric water pump and fan that runs of a yellow top battery thats in the trunk so this way all the jucie from the 16 volt battery gos to the ignition system. No problems at all and with a full charge on both batteries I get about 5 to 6 full runs in, thats with a 454 bbc.Oh,I have been running this way for about 4 years.

Ian.
There is a company AGM electrical that makes a dual post trick battery that has 16 volt on one post and a 12 volt lug on another all in one battery. The 12 volt lug lug you can run anything you think will not handle 16 volt. I recomend calling the manufacture of anything you run aftermarket and make sure it will handle 16 volt first. I know for sure all MSD ignition will handle 16 volt thus you can run everything threw the master disconnect with this battery. BTW this battery you can purchase threw Jegs or direct. Good luck.

But isnt it possible for any battery to get a cell imbalance?? I belive so, I dont think you can blame just the three post on that. It is possible to run everything on the 16 volt I only sugjested the dual post for the question at hand if its a problem with this type of battery I certainly would like to know more about this if its is a real issue. Thanks, not trying to hijack the thread.
