NHRA has received notice from SFI, Inc. that a Notice of Temporary Product Decertification was issued today to Impact Racing Products, Inc. regarding certain products (listed below). Therefore, effective immediately, the products listed below will not be accepted for use in NHRA racing at this time. The products are:
•Driver suits, pants and jackets manufactured in 2007 identified as compliant with SFI Specification 3.2A/15 or 3.2A/20 This temporary decertification applies to Impact Racing all driver suits, pants or jackets manufactured in 2007 whether or not the item has been updated, upgraded, rebadged or recertified by Impact Racing. This temporary decertification applies even if a product that was manufactured in 2007 now has a 2009 SFI label affixed to the product. The date of manufacture of the product is determinative. SFI has informed NHRA that Impact Racing has challenged SFI’s findings in this matter and is conducting its own review of the findings. SFI also has informed NHRA that SFI’s investigation continues. In addition, SFI has informed NHRA that this decertification may be modified, withdrawn or made permanent. The earlier recall of the following Impact Racing items remains in effect: •Driver suits, pants and jackets manufactured in 2008 identified as compliant with SFI Specification 3.2A/15 or 3.2A/20 •Driver shoes and boots manufactured in 2008 identified as compliant with SFI Specification 3.3/15 or 3.3/20

Us TS and TD drivers are affected by this because next year every driver will need a -15 suit whether you run nitrous or not. I know a few guys with Impact -15's that sent them back for re-cert when they had a recall a while back. I have an Impact 3/2A5 that I use now but will need a -15 for next year, Im not gonna chance it with Impact, I will go to another brand.

On 1 of the other boards there was a thread going around about 15+20 suits from Impact. The concern was that some of them felt thin... When asked they were told new materials etc. The newer suits felt thicker. There was also talk about sending a suit into SFI and have them cut it up. My buddy has a -15 from 2006 and he really likes it. But the concern expressed from other people was did they have a suit that was going to save them in a fire...If SFI has stepped in then they have found something that was not right

I have an Impact -15 firesuit that I purchased last year... it was pulled back in the last NHRA/SFI recall, and Impact handled it very professionally... arranged to pick up the old one, made me a brand new one (including make a few dimensional adjustments... I must have been holding water that month...), and promptly returned it -- all for free, and in about 10 days. Included all of the special colors and monogramming that I had on the original version.
That probably doesn't make anyone else feel better about purchasing a new one -- or having their firesuit blackballed mid-season... as for being "thin" -- if your (dragster) cockpit is tight, you'll have a lot of fun putting your belts on with the -15 suit on... it's plenty thick... s |

Doesn't sound so good this time. Jackie Fricke contacted impact yesterday and was told that hers and Shawn's -15 suits were no good and all they get is a $500 certificate towards a new suit. My 2 dash 15s from 2007 are also junk (decertified). . . and I wouldn't buy a pair of shoelaces from impact now. SFI said they were 'looking at' 2007 suits in January and then 6 MONTHS LATER they declare them all decertified . . . WTF???? Something smells real bad about this whole deal.
