Default Dead Battery at Denver

N.H.R.A Rules on Starting your car in the staging lanes. In Denver after first round eliminations we get back to the trailer and plug the car in to the charger and leave the water pump on like we have been doing for 30 years. We are originally from Denver and had family and friends in our pit area. After first run we went up to watch the Pro’s mainly because of friends and family’ because I could care less about them. Any way we get called up to second round I head back to the car and notice that the battery charger is unplugged and the fan motor is barely turning. Some how the charger got unplugged. 30 years of racing this has never happened before; probably all the people in the pit area someone tripped on the extension cord and unplugged the car.. I plug the charger back in and let it charge for about 10 minute. Because we are parked 2 miles from the starting line Bob starts the car three times to get to the staging lane. We roll down to the starting line; Bob try’s to start the car to stage’ the battery is dead. We push it two feet it starts and he pulls up. Now I know the rules and the car needs to start under its own power so I know we are screwed. Here comes that asshole Stewart he comes unglued starts yelling and pointing his finger’ we shut it down and push it out of the box. I am pissed he comes up pointing fingers and yelling. I am ready to knock this asshole out. But keep my composure. What I am getting at is we drive 700 miles’ the spectators are there to see racing; why not make it where after fuel check if the car won’t start you are disqualified. This shows that the alternator and battery works. N.H.R.A treats sportsman like **** at national events and Stewart comes up to me with this look like he is ready to kill me well let me tell you something Mr Stewart you old F+++ anywhere but that starting line you aint **** and you know it.
Congratulations To the Fletch.

Years ago after finishing our '57 Chevy SS/MA (which ain't a bad piece), we were having some problem in the water box at Topeka, nothing major and did not delay any action, and Stewart comes at us like a pit bull yelling to get that piece of *&%x outta here.

If I never encounter him again I'll be a happy guy......I guess he took "customer relations classes" from 'ol badge-happy Topper....just where do they find these guys?

If anyone knows my car it's pretty much stock stock, anyway, I was at the Gator's and my dial was incorrect, so after doing the burn out I got up next to Stewart and blew my horn at him to show that my dial didn't match my window. I think that I scared a good 5 years out of him! Maybe that's why he doesn't like sportman racers! LOL!

Not sure if he was always as nice about it, but at my first national event ever (as a 20 year-old kid racing Super-Gas, there at the track by myself) I had a starter solenoid fail. Buster came up and asked where my crew was, I told him there were three of us, me myself and I. He had a good laugh, and showed me where to push and get it out of the way. They let me jack up the car and work on it just off to the side, since I didn't have anyone there to tow me back. I guess times have changed. RIP, Buster!

That would have been worth the price of admission, alone.

Years ago, when I ran Div II, I was coming to the line and I had a For Sale in my window . Buster whips out a big roll of cash and starts waving it at me! ..... Good ol' boy..

I agree, Buster was a great guy. First pass at Indy, etc, Buster always had a smile and would wave.

However, at Topeka Nick Folk and I were just out of the water box for first round when one of the cars making a pass broke. It was hotter than heck, and Nick and I were both sitting in black F bodys. Mr Stewart told people to push us back in the shade where it was a little cooler and let us get out. I thought that was nice of him His can't be an easy job, I couldn't do it, and wouldn't want all the grief and pressure.

Think he really hates sportsman racers? How can you tell?

Also, some people are more excitable than others. We ain't all wired alike, ya know?.
