question on lauches

i hope this isnt a dumb question but can some please tell me how the stock elim guys get the wheels up in the air like they do i knoe you have to have good rear suspenion but what else thanks

lots of weight in the trunk. Some of the upper class cars have 300#'s or more in ballast!
I was helping a friend with his J/SA car this weekend. Finally has a convertor that is right for the car as he's gone from too loose, too tight to just right. So says Goldilocks..
Thanks for Yaccavone convertors in getting it right the first time (he didn't do the other two).
Now it's obvious to me the car still wasn't launching right. It basically just moves forward w/ no body movement. It did pull the tires about 4" off the ground but it was all pretty unspectacular looking. Best 60' was 1.63 with radials (this is in AZ). After discussing what his experience was when he softened the rear shocks up I determined the rear springs were probably shot. They are a multi-leaf w/ Cal-Tracks. So my suggestion was replace the springs with Calvert springs which should be about 40#'s lighter and more effective at the same time. Place the saved 40#'s in the trunk (he already has ballast in the trunk), He has a standard battery up front so I told him about a cheap battery that will save 15#'s up front and there's another 15#'s in the trunk. The Calvert front shocks are better on extension and have more travel and I know they work better than the QA's he has now. I'm betting there's .05 on 60' time with these simple and somewhat affordable improvements.

also the front end plays a big part in the "wheelie game" as well. Everything loose as passible without sacrificing safety. All my bolts are double nutted and the upper control arms are very loose. Everything has to move smooth. Stockers usually leave hard because they are close to 100% efficient meaning the car is way better than the engine. My car left ok but after 3 days on the scales moving weight around its perfect. Probably would go faster with a less violent wheelstand but its cool and on a "so so" dragstrip it will spin if it doesnt get up on the tire. Just my 2 cents...

Stiff rear suspension, loose front suspension, good converter, lotsa torque I dont have any ballast in the trunk, well the battery and the fuel cell are back there
