It has been recommended that I get a wideband 02 sensor, Innovate motorsports is one brand that was mentioned. I am wondering what is the favorite brand of data equipment and what features are most desired? Does the racepak stuff have 02 capabilities? any help would be appreciated

What ever you get make sure it has the same samle rate( 500 samples per sec or 1000 sample they need to be same to overlay graphs) as your Data System

FYI When I ran the Innovate, it would drop out at high Rpm....above 7500. I called their tech dept. they had me try all sorts of things to no avail. However after not being able to make it work correctly they did refund my money which was more than I had expected they may have figured out how to fix that now it has been 2-3 years since I had mine. I have since used an Autronic model B very expensive but it works fine, Just a word of caution, don't fixate on getting a particular AFR as there is no "sweet" number every engine like their own AFR. Good luck. Joe

I had the innovate stuff and it wasn't the most reliable. I now have the Racepak and am about to add the o2's. I would go no other direction than the racepak stuff

I used an Innovate LM-1 on my LT-1 Firebird and it worked fine with little or no problems. It was very helpfull and the software that comes with it is very good. I had zero experience with tuning an EFI powered engine and the LM-1 allowed me to get it running pretty well. I bought everything I needed from Greg Kelley at Motorsports Innovations.
The car I used it on was sold and it was tuned some by a much more experienced tuner than myself. There was very little gains made from where I had the car running. A little better launch and slightly quicker ET's but overall that LM-1 was a great tool. I simply pressed a record button on the unit (laying on the passeneger seat) before making a run........press it again after the finishline to stop the recording. Remove unit and hook it up to my laptop and use the software to look at the run. I removed the O2 sensor anytime I was not using the LM-1. Had it in a collector and had to add some collector length to dampen lean spikes at lower rpm. I could see stage rpm, converter stall, shift rpms and max rpm at the stripe. LM-1 with an RPM Converter.....I think now they offer an LM-2 that does the same job..... I sold the car and the LM-1 and laptop went with it.....I wish I had both back as I could use it on my present car......

i used a innovate lm-2 and was able to get afr to 12.5 all the way down the track,i made a bracket that attached to the unit and hung from the rear veiw mirror,it also had a play back feature that when you where done with the run you could play back on stie but it had soft ware that was real easy to work, rpm and afr along with the air data you collected it got me in the ball park with unproven carb modifications ,i have it for sale on ebay
if your interested item # 110476677274 it is also a scan tool pm me if you have any questions gmonde |

Wide band O2 can be a great tool. Just like anything else, it depends on where your A-F ratio is now as to to how much improvement.
I sell the Racepak and Innovate lines. If you are looking for the most economical setup I recommend the older LM-1 for race cars with MSD ignitions. They are $279 you can add RPM for $99. Racepak has a O2 sensor to go into any Vnet system and they are $359. I have had customers make major gains with cars that are setup for big wheelstands and had some issues with float levels. Also, several guys were able to determine intake manifolds with very unequal fuel distribution. |

What do you mean cars that wheel stand? Only carbureted engines not injected is this what you are referring too. What about adding a set of merge collectors does anyone have data? I have heard the fuel ratio going < L > L both ways. Also I have heard that there is no perfect a/f ratio. You should tune until max hp, mph, et. if it starts falling off go back. Rich or lean whatever the car likes. I agree to start with a good baseline 12.8 - 13.2/1 tune up or down and as long as you’re not detonating read the plugs with a good magnifying glass to see evidence of metal transfer.

Hi Dion,
I have used the LM-1 and LM-2 on street cars they work find but on my race cars they don't. If you are going to spend the money RacePak is by far the best i have used, a little pricey but very reliable with no wasted runs. I wasted a bunch with the innovate, it cost me more money (travel expenses to the track, entries and on and on) than the new racepak system. But if you want a used LM-1 or LM-2 I would gladly sell them. Just my Opinion Darcy |
