Not a car deal but...
This one way to pass the time up here in Minnesota. It has been -20 to -30F on and off for 2 weeks. But we had some fun anyway Any one here into vintage sleds? Some of the old racers are very cool! |

Oh yes, We started out in the early '70's ice oval and grass-drag racing Rupp Nitro models. Then we went to the '76 Mercury liquid Sno-Twister sleds. They were untouchable for a few years in stock classes. Campaigned both 340cc and 440cc models on the ice ovals and grassdrags in the fall. My brother still campaigns a Arctic Cat F7 on the grass in Improved 700 class here in New England and has been out to Haydays races w/it. Aren't big event oval ice races coming up soon at Eagle River? We have a friend w/a old 800cc Chapparal who has been very successful in vintage events out there....wish they still ran the Ski-doo twin-trackers...they were something else to watch on a ice oval.....

I'm sure that many of you Div. 1 people here have seen many late model asphalt-converted sleds running low 8's in the 160's at both Epping, NH and Lebanon Valley, NY quarter-mile tracks. Quite impressive. WJ

Glenn I don't have any anymore but I like looking at the old sleds still. We were into racing Sleds when I was little back in the early 70's. I am still a huge fan of the Ski-Doo rv's and 7500 blizzards from the 70's. Are you doing some vintage racing now?

Before real estate development killed snowmobiling in my area, I was still riding a Polaris Centurian, But back in the early eighties I had a '77 Rupp Nitro 440 liquid cooled sled that was super fast when you could keep pistons in it !........Had a John Deere Liquifier that was nearly unbeatable untill the Polaris 500's came around in the mid 80's..........Now days ,I'd have to drive a couple fo hours to go anywhere decent to ride.........Tom
