Default Now ZMAX will have a dome for the circus act.

BRUTON’S LATEST PROPOSAL IS UNBELIEVABLE
Written by CompetitionPlus Thursday, 01 April 2010 11:32 PDF Print E-mail

Extremely pleased with the results of the recent NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at his zMAX Dragway, Bruton Smith has already proposed a new twist to four wide racing.

According to a source within SMI (Speedway Motorsports, Inc.), owner of zMAX Dragway, the team at zMax Dragway and the NHRA are already working on a major reworking of the four wide scenario - team relay racing at 300 miles per hour.

It is said Smith will put up a winner take all $10 million dollar payout, which is tentatively scheduled for April 1, 2011. ABC Sports is said to have already purchased the rights to the event for an astounding $50 Million dollars.

In addition, the Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle teams will be paired in a similar format with the winning team splitting $2.5 million dollars.

Four teams, made up of cars, both Top Fuel and Funny Car, will battle on the four lanes at zMax Dragway for the biggest payout even in NHRA history. Each team will consist of two Top Fuel Dragsters and two Funny Cars.

Each four car team will make one qualifying run on Saturday on live television, also on ABC. The No. 1 qualifying team will earn $500,000 for their efforts. Only the top four teams will qualify for the $10 million dollar showdown.

The proposed format will break the track down into four quarters of 330 feet. The first driver will be timed for the first 330 feet, the second the next 330, and so on to the finish line, which for this event will be at the quarter-mile mark.

Once all four drivers have made a run, their assigned times will be averaged, with the winner being the team with the lowest averaged time.

Safeguarding his investment from inclement weather, Smith has reportedly consulted with engineers to add a dome with a retractable roof over zMax Dragway. The dome will extend for another quarter mile past the finish line.

The two winning teams will be transported to New York City following the event where they will appear live on David Letterman's late night talk show on Monday night. Prior to the taping of the Letterman show, all eight drivers/riders will spend the day appearing on various sports programs yet to be determined.

Our source said it is also possible the winners of the event will meet President Barrack Obama and his wife, on the Tuesday after the event.

Several major car owners refused comment, saying they wanted to hear more before making up their minds about participating.

One multi-time championship winning driver/team owner who wished to remain anonymous stated, “$10 Million Dollars, I'm there.”

I know I was so excited about a dome, I have though long and hard how it could be effectivley done with saftey, cost, and noise direction that wouldnt kill the participants. Having a pair go bad would be bad enough 4 going bad at the same time would likley make the thing a "tunnel of death" So how high for safety, and how wide (for side weather deflection) and what materials or design from a Architecutral approach would work .....

Now Im bummed I was hoping to see how they figured out an architectural wonder like this.

I didnt even know it was April 1st till I got a call.....at about 10:30 from a "Class Racer" telling me Cheers....lol

I got nailed by my employees at work this morning! I'm just glad this silliness only happens once a year, so we can get back to being really sarcastic when we need to!
