Battery mounting

Which is the best way to mount a battery? Lengthwise or crosswise? Does it make a difference in battery life?

Floyd i always mount them crossways(with the terminals on the left and right side) because the acid crashing against the plates on launch will eventually short the battery!!if its a dry cell or gel battery im not sure i use ac-delco standard batterys

Scott, I use an Optima. Does that make a difference?

According to Optima, you can mount those suckers pretty much any which way you want.
