Now that qualifiers are in the eliminator regardless of winning class it makes no difference if you are Slow man in class but fast enough or fast man in class and getting in eliminations.
With that condition in place what difference does it make how many classes are present? Fewer classes makes for more cars per class at nationals everywhere, not just INDY. Sure some more % of hitting a heads up in eliminations be most report a very low % now so maybe not much different. Result, possible less money for sponsors by NUMBER of classes maybe they could pay some % MORE per class win. NHRA might see more people watching CLASS more places. Maybe more races without BYE run classes so people RACE more. ? Dick Butler Former Class Racer. |

I agree, but the bracket racers that like to crawl off to a class by themselves won't. Not many mfgrs can aford to pay contingies to the number of classes we have now. It has gotten to be more like ahra which was really lame.

I have to say that I do not see the point in this. It will not solve any problems.

I'm a bracket racer, and I would support some kind of class consolidation, done with a little common sense.

Tony, Do you like class racing? or do you prefer bracket racing. Maybe you like both which many do in NHRA. The point is many races are not the size of the INDY Stock or SS entry llist. With the LARGE number of classes it is statistically impossible to make a Class show of smaller entry lists. If only 80 cars got entered at an event where all were in separate classes THEN you can say whats the point? That is TODAY with NHRA. Statistics of a 25 class Stock catagory with 80 entries allowed would probably allow a greater % of classes to be won by RACING someone not just BYE runs. Face it if Stock or SS began to have the interesting Heads up classes with 3 or 4 cars everywhere not only observers but Racers would begin to see the challenge again to WIN by being Faster, quicker, harder working, more dedicated.
I know some can play the money card but if they run quick enough to qualify so what? They only have to be willing to TRY to win class, not just be present to dial in. |
