Default Do you remember?

When NHRA reduced the indexes 3 tenths and added a clause for those cars which may be affected that were currently on or just barely under the minimum? I vaguely recall something about dialing no slower then 3 tenths over the new indexes which was adjusted basically for qualifying concerns and AFHS concerns. There is a reason I ask is because I am trying to go as slow as possible No kidding ! Can someone tell me why there is a minimum dial in the first place assuming the car is legal? I'm sure it comes from the early days. I cannot find in the rulebook about the dialing over the index ---- Thanks

Exclamation Re: Do you remember?

The reason they didn't let you dail over the index was, that if you built your stocker or superstocker anywere close to using the blue print sheets it should run .50 to 1.00 under and that way they kept the bracket cars out. but now everybody just wants to bracket race so thats where were at now!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's misleading to suggest that there isn't a heck of a lot more to it than JUST blueprint specs! But it is to keep out just any ole car that meets minimum specs and effort. An index is basically a minimum performance standard to maintain a certain level of effort, research, creativity, etc. A one second spread between 2 identical same class combos reflects a HUGE difference in the time, money, knowledge, research, etc. that goes into it. But dial-ins at the index and faster still allow people, from who can make the index through the people that can run 1+ seconds under, be competitive - until they get matched up to race heads-up.

I raced in D/S 1970-71 left to build Harleys and returned in the late 80's. Since returning I run mostly nostalgia events and paid litle or no attention to stock or superstock. What boggles my mind is the indexes . Who, why, and what those words all come instantly to my mind as I can only guess the reason they are used. All I see now is a bracket race as oppossed to a class run off where only the winner's get a shot at the eliminator. Then I visit here and see a portion screaming about Drag Pac cars HP being rated to low and how unfair it makes it for others. All I can see is that if 6 or 8 of them make a 64 car field the result is 6 or 8 of the cars who could not run under the index as much go home. How many events are won by cars that qualified in 55th thru 60th place anyway.

All events, except Indy and a select few Divisional races, are all run. It's supposed to be a 128 car field, but when they only take 80-100 entries at each race, everyone gets to run. And yes, occasionally some cars that qualify down in the bottom half go rounds and occasionally win.

P.S. Are you the HemiFred that has the old Sox and Martin Duster that was at Quarter Aces for the Nostalgia race in September along with the Jenkins Monza and the Bill Stiles 'Cuda?

Cool! Our Association did a S/SS race that weekend. Was great to see all the old cars from before my time. Loved your car and the Stiles original 'Cuda. Awesome cars.

Before Tom Bryan got the Bill Jenkins car find another early pro stocker to race was a problem. Not many guys with an expensive historical car want to get them dusty let alone making a hard pass. Never had thatbn propblem with my car.
At Carlilse Mopars here again at Q Aces with my good buddy Bill Stiles.
