Cool What??????????

Offered a rerun. Why???? Johnson should have been declared the winner before he ever staged. Am I wrong????

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET-- Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET-- Speed
4560 Gilbert Johnson Jr 4786 Marvin Allemand
E1 -0.010 10.664 112.00 ****WINNER**** 0.020 11.005 122.76
GT/JA Dial: 10.59 (+/-): 0.074 SS/JA Dial: 11.82 (+/-): -0.815
Qualified: #3 10.589 -1.011 #9 11.005 -0.295

Marvin Allemand apparently won on Gilbert Johnson Jr's red light, but Allemand changed his dial at the last minute and in trying to change from 10.82 to 11.02, ended up with 11.82 on the car, an illegal dial-in for his class. Johnson was offered a rerun, but declined because he went red. Allemand faces Helms next round.

I think the computer should have automatically dialed his index or given an error to the operater that the dial was illegal.

A dial over the index should not be allowed by the compter unless they are running it in bracket racing mode.

I don't know Johnson, but in my opinion, it was a a very good sportsmanlike move to decline. Even when a knucklehead official tries to offer something they shouldn't.

He sure is, always willing to answer my questions even knowing that I will run the same class as he does.

I have been around the Johnsons a long time and have had the great privilege too drive their Impala, no better people. I was at the race with them and Gilley made that decision immediately.

A situation at MIR this weekend.
2 cars staged the starter tried backing them out. The tree came on. One racer went red and demanded a rerun because the starter distracted him.
Same racer won the rerun too.
I did not see it but thats what I was told.

That was my car in stock with Jr driving.
The starter said the tree was not activating after several tries and knew the tree was long and in their effort to stop the racers and back them out ,the tree came down and both drivers took the tree and left. (Jr said he did not see anyone trying to stop him ,but he was racing and focusing on the tree and helmet had blinders on it). We won and had a .040 light ,the opponent had a -.015 red. I was way back behind the line and did not see them trying to stop the guys. But some closer told me that they did.(not arguing that point)
At that time the starter came over and explained the situation and said there would be a re-run. Only thing about that was when our guy went red we ran out the back door since weather was changing and went a 12.18 off a 12.24 dial. Our guy went a 10.16 off a 10.17 dial.
So the re-run made us keep our same dial (us being way fast) . when we came back to the lanes our guy had changed his dial to a 10.14. I told him he could not change his dial and he was a little upset. He asked the official at the head of the lanes and he told him no dial change. The no change hurt us more than him ,but thank goodness Jr knows how to hold a "few". The re-run was a "W" to us. We were .039 on the tree and our guy was .070 on the tree.We went dead on with a 4 .. Now i want 10 more points for an extra round... lol

I did observe the MIR incident, but did not see the starter attemp a wave off. I believe there should be a switch availible to the starter to activate the tree reds imendiately for emergency situations. Also there should be an emergency warning device down track simular to NASCAR yellows. In drag racing they could simply flash the score board data indicating a dangerous situation down track. An official at the top end of the track would also be able to trip a switch to activate and emergency warning to racers. There have been many situations where racers have left the starting line only to find fluid, parts, or rain at the finish line. You should not depend on communications (radios/hand signals) to activate warnings with just a few seconds to spare.
