I currently have 205 x 15 tires on my 24' enclosed trailer and it's time for new tires, my question is how much bigger tire can ( or should ) i run on it 215, 225, 235 ? I run interstate mostly as just around the local area. Also was told to run at least a 10 ply style sidewall, this true?

a fellow Kentuckian...
i just replaced the tires on my 24' enclosed, 205.75.D15 I think if I could have afforded them I would have went with a 225 and a thicker side wall, I think mine are 6 ply. I pull the hills of ky and the interstates. I would highly recommend (and I will someday) moving up to 16" wheels and tires, the 16" tires seem to hold up much better than the 15's

The bigger and heavier duty, the better, as long as they fit and don't rub. Extra insurance.
As for brands, stay away from Carlisle. It's been discussed before and the strong majority favors other brands. |

Try to move up to a 16. I di this year and they have been great. They make 16 inch 6 lug wheels. I got mine from Kenny Anderson in Lake Worth Florida.

I bought 16" rims at www.easternmarine.com for less than $50 each about a year or so ago. Their tire prices are a little more pricey. Best bet is 16" wheels/tires because they will more than pay for themselves rather than buying 15" tires on a regular basis.

As long as you obtain the "D" load range tires you will not have any issues. B and C can gice you headaches if you are carrying alot of weight.
For sure, stay away from Carlisle. If you have a Pomps Tire in your area you will not spend a ton of cash. If not, I can try getting them for ya. I seem to recall they are around $100 each. |

sorry for chiming in late on the issue but "E " rating 10 ply tires are now available for 15" rims. They allow more air pressure 80lbs. and fewer problems with heavy trailers and interstate travel. I have used them on my 24 ft box for last couple years with good results.

OK so we do not buy Gyear or Carlisle---maxxis ok??? Pomps what brand ??? Loadstar mixed answers here---does any one make a load range D or E that comes in a 15 inch tire or can I use a HD LT truck tire?? or does anybody know where I can get 5 lug 16 inch wheels??? If I hafta go to 16 inch wheels everything I've seen is 6 lug which means I hafta go buy new brake drums/hubs too in addition to the wheels and tires now ya start talking some serious money with hubs/wheels/tires involved like easily maybe $1300-1500 dollars for the whole thing---my current tire is a 225/75/15 load C and I haul a 1000 pound dragster with the normal stuff but NO golf cart--Comp 387

One thought is if you have to buy drums backing plates you might want to check out the next axle upgrade and get the axle asm that has the 16 x 6 bolt circle proably gets you bigger brakes and larher wheel bearings also. Did you know that the Dexter 3500 lb axles use a Pinto/Maverick outer wheel bearing?
